I haven't adjusted the 770 Street Avenger from box-condition yet, but the guys at work say that when i'm leaving work in the morning, they cry from the rich fumes from my car......
it apparetnly doesn't do it once it's warm, but whenit's time to go, it's tome to go, and i jump in, fire it up, and take off in the morning....usually, it;s warmed up by the time i get a mile away, but i've heard it puffs black and stinks BADLY on the way out the parking lot.......

will a choke really richen it that much??....it seems to run best cold with the choke held wide open.

Sounds like the vacuum pull off is not working correctly or is out of adjustment. When the carb is cold the choke should shut tight but as soon as the engine starts manifold vacuum should pull it open 3/8 to 1/2", the electrically heated choke spring will then open it the rest of the way as the engine warms up.
