well, ive finally got started on the dart this weekend.i got most of it cleaned, degreased, sanded down, and primed.to bring everybody up to date,i sold a 72 roadrunner parts car on ebay for $2500.00,turned around and bought a 73 dodge dart swinger,225 six cylinder,727 automayic, with 7.25 rear end.the car looke d pretty much rust free, with only a small whole in the top of the left rear quarter panel, and the front floor pans are pretty much shot.the car only has 74000 original miles, ran absolutely perfect, but the front torsion bars were shot!i sold the engine on ebay for $250.00,bought a hood for dart sport for $75.00,and a hood scoop for $200.00.also bought a very nice repro rear spoiler on ebay, holley projection,2 sets of tailight lenses, oilfilter adapter, etc, etc.

Sounds like you are off and running! Good luck and give us some pictures when you can.

You have moved your money around well.8-)
Good parts and a great car.:thumleft:

well today i worked for my brother in law in the bodyshop, because of rain, soooo,i got to to stare at my car all day, wanting to work on it,instead of this stikin lincoln i got the priveledge of working on.since i was tired, and it was raining,i decided to see what i could do with the instrument cluster in this thing.this is a 73 dart, and while this cluster must not be the ugliest ive ever seen,it definitly is not the best looking design.i have a carbon fiber hood, off some ricerocket,my broinlaw gave me,so i think i will cut up a factory instrument cluster(an extra one,not my original)and make a carbon fiber insert for it,then put some autometer gauges in,with led turn indicators, and an led bright light indicator, and maybe a shiftlight.all i need now is to find a rough, but complete console, and make an insert for the top of it.i think i will use the autometer phantom series gauges, and a b&m mega shifter.the dash will be painted glossy black,as will the console,if and when i can find one.here are the before pics, not too impressive to me,just wait

i feel like time is flying by,my goal is to have this car at least drivable by march 08,and time is flying by.i found some 06 charger rt 18 inch wheels today, thats what im planning on running, but i have to wait until after christmas to let go of the $550.00 plus tires, lugnuts, etc.im burning up to paint this thing, but i have to wait until my birthday, next month for the floor pans i need.my plan is to paint the underside as well as the out side, engine compartment and jambs.i have the instrument cluster disassembled, and ready for the carbon fiber insert, but i have to wait for the gauges,so i know exactly what size to cut the holes.i still cant take any new pictures, because its still raining cats and dogs.oh well, maybe more progress tomarrow!

Before you get the Charger wheels be aware that the bolt pattern is not 4.5. I tried these on my Cuda and I broke a stud when I went to torque them down. The wheel are so close but not quite. Chrysler went with a Mercedes bolt pattern not the old Dodge pattern.

well, this weekend,i got a little more work done on the dart.i took the passengerside fender off the car, cleaned and sanded the iner wheel well, and painted it gloss black.i also cleaned the disc brake assembly, painted it all bright aluminum,to see what it will look like when i have it all powdered coated with a chrome powder.i dont want everything to be black, because i like a very detailed look with different colors,i also want as much powder coated or stainless steel,so this car will last a very long time,be matinence free, and look good too.im planning to disassemble the front suspension once the car is painted, and have it all powder coated before rebuilding it with poly bushings.i also plan on welding the stiffener plates on the lower control arms, add a swaybar, and maybe swap to viper calipers,if i can find some.right now im saving for the whels,ao i can mock this baby up,and see what mods i have to make.i will try to post some pics tomarrow, since it has finally stopped raining here

nah the paint is gone from the braking surface first time he uses them. Prevents rust for now anyway.

the paint is not good for the pad surface though
would you leave paint on your flywheel and expect your clutch to clean the paint off?

no i wouldnt with the clutch but i have done it before on a car that i had the rotors sandblasted for 15 dollar pads it aint worth all the taping off sometimes

i appreciate the advice, but i wont be using these rotors any way.i plan or running some drilled, and slotted summit rotors, they will be chrome powdercoated every were except the wear serface.i just wanted to see what it will look like when done, and also have a wayto bolt my big bolt pattern wheels on,cant wait to get them.anybody need some smallbolt steel wheels?

anybody need some smallbolt steel wheels?
I could sure use them if they're 14" and are not bent.
I'm in CT so they would have to be shipped. Let me know what you need for them, including shipping to 06611 and I'll take them.

this weekend i got to do a little more work on the dart.Iv found that there are some items i need that nobody makes,or that i cant find.i need turn signals for the grille,my lenses are junk!i need a driverside door panel, any color, the rest of mine are mint,so i dont see th need of buying a pair new.i need driprail mouldings, cant find repros any were, all the cars in junk yards around here either dont have them,or are 4 doors, there different.i need wheel well mouldings,a straight front bumper, gonna paint it unless the chrome is perfect,so i dont really care what it looks like.i need someone to tell me what i need to be able to use a 67-69?barracuda flip top gas cap.is the filler neck different?will it bolt right on with no mods?
i need a console, with top plate, dont really car if its in bad shape, gonna smooth it(console)and paint it base clear black, then make a carbon fiber insert for the top,and put a mega shifter in it.the rear end im gonna use is a ford 8 inch.its in a duster i bought for the reaend and disk breaks.this is one of those times when i should have paid more attention to what i was buying, but i didnt want to seem too excited, because the price always seems to go up.its a 73 duster,i glanced under it to look at the rear housing(becaus it had big bolt pattern and the guy said his son changed the rearend to a more desirable rear)and didnt see any bolts on th rear housing,i thought someone put an 8.75 in it.it had big bolt on the front so i thought it was disk, wrong again.some how someone put big pattern drums on it.my question is will this rear live with 400 horepower ripping through it?cant find a posi for it either.i got the discks taken care of with cordoba 11.75 set up,but i still got a long way to go .oh well,if anybody has what i need, please lrt me know, thanks

well,i havent been able to work on the dart any lately, with the cold, and it getting dark so early.today i found a guy who wants to trade some 96 cobra mustang wheels, with tires for some paint work.i dont plan to run these wheels, but i have been looking somekind of 17s to use as mock up rims.these are 17by 8s i believe,so they will be a good starting point to be sure what size i can or cannot run on this thing.maybe by the weekend i will have some pics to show on clearance with these wheels

well,i painted the grille today, but was not very happy with the outcome.it never got out of the 40s in the shop today,so everything was drying very slowly.i was kind of upset, after spraying the grille silver, then many hours of taping, and triming tape,i sprayed a candy red stripe on the center bar of the grille.when that was dry,i taped up the red, then sprayed everything black, with rustoleum spray paint.it dried very slowly, and the gloss is exceptional.when the black dried after about 3 hours,i untapped everything.it was looking awsome, until the candy red started pulling off with the tape.so now,i guess i have to do it all over again.

One of the Mopar mags did an article where they put the Barracuda gas cap onto a Dart. I think they said they could have pretty much bolted it on by moving the filler neck to the outside of the quarter panel or something like that but they thought it looked like it stuck out too much. They cut notches in the quarter to clear the hinge & latch on the cap & filled it in with sheet metal. It looked really good. I plan to do the same on my Barracuda. I would have to do some digging to find the magazine because all of mine are currently packed away. I'll see what I can do in the next few days or maybe somebody here can point you in the right direction.

As far as the 8" Ford rear, I have a friend with an 8" behind a warmed over 302 in a Mustang II with a 4 speed. I haven't talked to him in a long time but I don't think he ever had any problems with the rear & he's really hard on his cars. If it was weak, he probably would've broken it.

i appreciate the info.ive been into mopars along time, but nobody knows everything, its nice to have a friendly place to get the info i cant find anywere else.

today i got the wheels i been waiting for to trial fit on my car.they are 97,17x8,cobra mustang rims, with 245/45/17 tires.i put one one the right front for now,to check for clearance on all the suspension parts, etc.well,i have to say they fit like a glove,i had to clearance the center just a little, with 80 grit sandpaper,so they would fit over the center register.my plan was to fit these wheels,so i could run some bullit wheels, but after seeing these,i like them,so i might run them for a while.i think they will look really good with the black paint job.i will try to get some pics tomarrow,it got dark before i could finish today.

I want to know where to get the billet cap thats on the new hemi Dart from Mr Norm - just the right size - all the others I've looked at are too big.

well, tonight i got started pulling th 8 inch ford rear end out of the duster parts car.The bolts are so rusty,it gonna take a while to get this thing out,but im want to see the cobra wheels on the rear of the dart,so i got to get this thing out soon!
