If original all 8.25's
1997 and up will have 29 spline
1996 and down will have 27 spline

I have one for really low gears I believe 2.56 or lower, for a thicker ring gear, new will let it go cheap.

How cheap is cheap and do you think I could fit my 3.55's on it?

No 355 will not fit, maybe 256 or so. Really not sure bought it at a garage sale. Cheap is 50 and shipping.

One other way to go is get a rear dana 35 from a grand Cherokee 96-01 and you will get everything you need and also the rear disk brakes that are basically a bolt on for an 8 1/4. Around here they are 200-500.
