Hello to all I guess as a newbe i'll probably ask some lame questions ,like this i bought my son a 74 duster w a slant 225, auto, now can anyone tell me what the black pad/button on the floor above the high low beam switch is and or does i can't find info at all.

That would be the windshield washer pump in non-electric washer cars.

as has been said before, the only "lame" question in the one you don't ask.

thanks, we haven't been able to do much to the car yet it's been raining for 4 days and still for another 4 days ,so that helps to unboggle my brain .

You used to be able to buy "foot pump" windshield washers aftermarket. VW used an interesting deal---they powered the washer from the spare tire. So if ya forgot to keep it checked.........

That's why the later VW's had a shut-off valve in it so the spare wouldn't go flat.
