A long time slant six racer / builder that posts at .org is putting together a plan to manufacture a one time run of adapters to fit a Ford T5 manual tranny to a slant six bell housing. To gauge interest and the quantity that may be sold (that will have an impact on price) he has started this thread....the parts are not for sale yet, there are no photos of the parts or pricing available, that is why this thread is not in the for sale section,,,,,

The thread below details mating a T5 to a slant six bell housing. It has been done before, with one off custom conversions and a previous group buy project.

I adapted a T5 to my slant six but was never really happy with my work. I contracted Quick Time to engineer me a new blow proof bell. By the way they can refurbish your stock bellhousing so it can accept a Ford T5.

Any way, I paid all the costs of having it engineered so now they have it on file and the cost for a new Quick Time SFI approved housing is like half the cost I paid.

It works really well and I love the Ford T5 in my 63 Boosted EFI Dart. What a fun drive it is now. Love the overdrive!

Does the T5 fit well in the early A transmission tunnel? Any mods needed?

Are you saying that QT will make a blow proof bell that bolts to a slant?
Is it for the 13O tooth FW?

            tell me more!

No. The transmission tunnel is too small and needs modification. Not a real big deal if you have any fabrication skills and welding skills. I chose not to use aluminum as I have done on the many race cars I've built in my lifetime as I wanted a Car for cruising with my Wife and didn't want any leaks. LOL I'm 70 years old and been there and done that on about anything dealing with cars.

Yes, their Bell will bolt directly to the slant six. I used the stock flywheel, the stock (although new) pressure plate and used a new clutch disc from a Ford 2.3 Turbocharged Thunderbird. The clutch disc measures the same thickness as the stock slant six disc and the 2.3 has the correct spline for the input shaft of the T5 I used. The clutch disc for the 2.3 is 1/4" smaller in diameter which hurts nothing. The 2.3 produced around 190 horse power which will handle much of anything the slant six can throw at it. Stock disc have been known to handle in excess of 400 horse power with no slipping. I machined my pilot bushing out of oil impregnated bronze. Any machine shop can do this if you don't have a lathe. I don't know if it was my initial mismeasurement or not but I had to take I believe it was 190 thousandths off the snout of the T5 so it wouldn't hit the clutch disc. I also used a Tilton Hydraulic throw out bearing which made the installation easy. A hydraulic clutch master cylinder can easily be bolted to the firewall and line up with the clutch pedal. Tilton does recommend you use a diaphram type pressure plate but I couldn't find one so used the Long style pressure plate that the stock slant six uses with no ill effects.

                That's it in a nutshell.

At one point I time QT had a blow proof bell that would bolt up to a slant, but that bell was discontinued and is no longer available. Is that the QT housing that you are mentioning?

Just so you know I also used the stock 3 speed transmission mount which required very little modifications. Of course your driveshaft will have to be made to or modified to fit. I used a Ford rear end which I narrowed myself and after careful measurement found an internet site which built me a totally new driveshaft with the proper transmission and the proper rear end fixtures that was about $300 cheaper than having a driveshaft built locally.

Quick Time did build a bellhousing that bolted directly to the slant six but used a Mopar 4 speed transmission. I had mine built last year which should still be available. You can talk to Ron ( I think was his name) at 1-866-464-6553 if you want to bypass Holley which now either owns or represents Quick Time.

The number may not be a direct line to QT as I remember now that I had the cell number for the direct line to QT. The number I gave may actually be to Holley. I must have deleted the cell number I had as I can't find it in my phone.

The bellhousing QT made for me also had the adapter rings so It would accept two other Ford transmissions, although I can't remember which transmissions they were. I'd have to look and see if I had the paperwork that came with the housing.

Thanks, if you can, concerning the QT bell that will bolt to a slant, can you get to me:
                          A contact name at QT
A date or time period that housing was made
A purchase number, part number, something that would trace back to the engineering data.
                          Thanks again.

I spent a full hour on hold with Holley today and never a peep on their end. So tried another way by emailing them for duplicate information on my order for the Quick Time housing. Hopefully this will work.

I did find the adapter rings in their original packaging but no documents were found. Did some spring cleaning about a month ago and the box it cam in was thrown away.

Last chance is maybe a number is stamped on the housing but I have all my lifts tied up and will be a couple of days before one is cleared.

Keep your fingers crossed as I'm not one to easily give up!

Well this may be lucky news! There is a number engraved right under the SFI sticker. It reads B195934. No other markings were located.
I'd be happy to text you some pictures. I don't want to go to the trouble of posting them, however you are welcome to do so.

They should also make the bell crank, and the clutch fork. This is something I'm thinking and of doing.

Im jumping on the back of this thread as I am going to put a T5 behind my Slant in my 64 Dart. I have purchased the GillWelding T5 adapter and also found a Aluminum A833OD bellhousing. I need to employ a Hydraulic TO Bearing and that's where I ended.
I remember from last year that there was a more comprehensive thread on this?
                                  Am I right?
