Ok, so I was not raised around anyone with tattoos and ive never had the desire for one when I was younger.

I always thought it might be skanky and not look right.

Awhile back my friend got a tattoo with her kid's names and she asked me if I would ever get a tattoo. At first I said "absolutely not"!!! Then she asked me "isn't there anything you are really passionate about"

Then I started thinking about it and a few things came to mind.

Do you guys think tattoos are nice additions, or would you say it is a horrible, skanky idea??

It depends on the girl. I have one. I got one in memory of 7071DartGTReg (Bruce). But it depends on the girl. A skanky girl will be skanky without tattoos, so it's doesn't matter. Tattoos don't make you skanky. Skanky makes you skanky.

I had a friend in college that said he would wait a few years before getting a tattoo to make sure that he did want it... Tattoos are permanent and hard to remove if you regret it later...

I once heard a comedian describe a tattoo as: "My girlfriend asked me to get her name tattooed on me... I can see marrying a women, settling down, and having kids, but a tattoo - that's so permanent".... :BangHead:

Tattoo's are a form of personal expression. If you want one, nothing wrong with getting one. If you don't, there's nothing wrong with not getting one either. I like tattoo's, but, I don't actually have any myself. I've thought about getting them, but I've never decided on anything I wanted badly enough to have done. My wife has a bunch, including what amounts to a full sleeve on one arm at this point. I think they're beautiful, but more importantly, she does.

There are some things to consider. In this day and age it's less of a big deal, but depending on your line of work you may want to consider placing your tattoo somewhere it can be covered. Especially for a first tattoo. It shouldn't matter, but not all employers share that opinion.

And, they are pretty much forever. So choose your artist/shop carefully. Don't be afraid to go to several shops, look through the artists work (they should have an album of their work), sit down and talk to the artist, or ask for references for their work. The internet makes some of that a lot easier now, plenty of artists have their work online. But remember that tattoo's do take time to apply, so, you still want to go visit the shop and talk to the artist at some point. Depending on the size and complexity of the artwork you could easily be hanging out with that person for several hours (or days). Any reputable shop/artist should be willing to answer any questions you have about the process, how they maintain a clean shop and equipment, care and cleaning of your fresh tattoo etc. And if you have a particular design or style you want, make sure that you and your artist are on the same page style-wise. There are a lot of different artistic styles when it comes to tattooing, pick an artist that specializes in the style of art you want and you'll both be happier.

And once you have a design in mind, think on it for awhile. A few years is probably excessive, but a few months isn't a bad idea. Nice shops can be expensive too, so, a few months while you're saving up some money to pay for it is pretty reasonable.

You can try a Sharpie tattoo until you decide what and where you want the tattoo.

            Major Commitment.
Things that you are passionate about today can change over time ... also consider how it might 'look' when you hit age 60.

I cant tell you where , but GOD said, do not put any permanent markings on your body , it`s in the bible.
That being said, all sin is sin , I have sinned in other ways , so-----------------.
I have never wanted one , and still dont .
And think some w/ a bunch covering all there arms , look like their trying to imitate a lizard, = quite ugly.
Why a pretty girl would want one is beyond me . Looks like anyone w/ one is craving attention ----------J M O

I guess I was wanting attention when I tried to egg a new mustang into a race yesterday , he followed me till I turned off , traffic was too heavy anyway !! LOL

Tastefully done and in the right place, I like them. I think smaller is better, especially on a petite woman. Like Rusty indicated, I don't feel a tattoo makes a girl skanky by itself.

I may be in a minority...I love ink on a woman-done right. Not trendy crap. There is some amazing artists doing incredible work. Do not go cheap. At all. It is permanent. For good work expect to pay. I have three pieces, and all are covered by a long sleeve shirt. I recommend any work to be done be easily covered for future jobs or whatever direction you may take in life that may require it being covered. There are some here who can’t keep their mouth shut anytime a woman has ink-do what makes you happy.

agree with all, except the small tattoo part. I feel too small doesn’t look right. I was always advised to go a bit larger than what I actually saw/wanted. Also hurts detail.

It's just me. I think a small rose or butterfly in the right spot is sexy. My wife of 21 years doesn't have one but I'm not opposed to her getting them.

That newer chick on All Girls Garage has a bunch. I think they complement her personality (that's what it's all about, I suppose!).

I also understand you can get a lot better detail with a larger tat. I've seen a number of them that pull you in for a closer look with the detail.

I love the artistry that comes with the truly talented. Being a former art major and having made money doing such things, I can appreciate the talent and hard work that goes into perfecting the skill to a level where others desire “Your” work for themselves.

As far as I go, I have none. Thought about it. Never jumped on it. When I was talking about a the possibility of getting one, an old friend jumped in and gave me a quick couple of tips. Never below the line of a short sleeve T shirt, never vulgar. A tattoo of allegiance can lead to ridicule because other people (less worthy and zero class) often can not keep there mouth shut and must spread there opinion around or ridicule for there own entertainment. Embarrassing you is there sport.

As for yourself, do realize that as soon as a tattoo is seen by a stranger, (and sometimes family) you are Immediately judged, for better or worse.

Tattoos on women are fine. A lot depends on what & where it is. I’d rather not see them as they do nothing for me on any level. But once seen, it does raise the question(s) about the art work.

I have seen some super good work on the ladies. Roses, a simple few to a single, Coy fish left uncolored, (explained to me as so it would never clash with the wardrobe. Smart!)

As mentioned above, the young lady on TV show, AGG, has IMO, way to many tattoos that are haphazardly placed like a 10,000 piece puzzle box spilled on the floor. To me, it looks ridiculous and stupid as well as trashy. There is nothing attractive about it. Actually, it works in reverse for me. I find it repelling.

How some of these women claim there sexy I don’t know. I don’t find it sexy at all. Not one bit. I’m sure someone does. Just not I.

I have always liked tattoos, always said I wouldn't pay someone to draw on me. Well after my heart attack I broke down and paid someone to draw on me.
They can be Very addictive, as a smaller piece turned into a half sleeve and a start on my second arm..... even my wife caught the bug. I love her tattoos and the story they tell.

Go for it, dusters are awesome. My girl who is 30 has like 4-5 tattoos I like them mostly. Just do your research.

Remember when tattoos stood out on the beach? Now only the people with unmarked skin stand out.

Getting (a) tattoo(s) are like buying wheels for your car. Some people will like it, some won't. But remember this.......unlike that set of wheels, you are stuck with it forever.

We have a girl at work, she is nice to be around, and under all that, pretty. But GAWD she has some awful tattoos. And she has some mental issues, I'm not just sure what all yet. One is "murderous mary"

                                  No tattoos for me..
I've seen some beautiful women, made completely unattractive because they're loaded up with color instead of naturally beautiful skin.
                                  Just me I suppose..
Of course, I seen beauty made ugly by what is said ! Lol

Growing up, I would be reminded how many books I could have bought, every time I made a silly purchase.
Since tattoos don't come off in the shower, better make sure how you'll feel about it 20 yrs later.

I inadvertently started a shit storm over this subject a while back in the Hot Mopar Babes thread, so I'll not go into what I think about them on women. I will say to Rani, that you should trust your first instinct you stated in the OP. You have said that you are in your 30's now, and have gone this long without tats. It's totally your decision....so choose wisely!

I have never seen anything I would be okay with for the rest of my life.Factor in aging, weight gain/loss and it is a big no.Only thing I would consider is if one of my children died I could see having their name tattooed somewhere with some Angel wings or such.
I am 54 and they are 10 and 7 so I pray I pass with no ink.
