Temp probe placement?

My electric fan kit came with the screw in probe.The new alum. raditor has a sensor spot in in top tank.It would be easier to wire.But what is better for the fan switch top tank or intake manifold? Thank Kevin.
 
Kevin does the screw in probe lead to an adjustable thermostat or is it just a temp switch? If it's a temp switch it would kick on slightly quicker if installed in the thermostat housing although the difference will be very minor. If it leads to an adjustable thermostat it doesn't matter where you install it as you can adjust the thermostat to kick in whenever you like.
 
No it is the on 180 off 170 type no adjustment. Just wondering if it would make any diffeence whhether the the unit is in the top tank of radiator or the intake manifold for cooling purposes,Thanks Kevin.

I doubt it'd make any appreciable difference so I'd put it where ever it's easier to wire up. Last summer after I installed a new radiator in my Cuda I used a thermal temp gun to check the temperatures at various locations including the intake right next to the thermostat housing and the top radiator tank and the diff. was only 3 degrees.
 
Maybe better in the top tank since the manifold locations are before the thermostat. No sense for the fan to turn on before the thermostat opens, and you might need to conserve your battery in case the engine stalls, like if camping. But sounds like your fan switch trips about where the thermostat opens anyway. Once open, it is direct flow from the manifold to the radiator, so should be the same temp.

Advice above to place where easiest to wire is best. I expect the switch actuates a relay. It looks like most kits have the standard 40A automotive relay. My 02 T&C has a large solid-state relay riveted to the frame in front of the radiator, so I wonder how long those little relays last, though my T&C relay drives dual fans. If I roll my own electric fan, I may try to get one of those new relays from a junkyard.
