Tesla?? SCREW THAT!!! STEAM, and I don't mean "Stanley"

Whats to stop remaking this to burn crap gas or CNG or LPG? Seems doable and the emissions would only be the burning of the heating fuel. 25G is 1925 is $750,000 today..the price of a Shelby SSC...it WAS the fastest car out there at the time in 1925.

Awesome video....What I wouldn't give to see Jay Leno's garage
Our newer boats used steam generators for heating rather than fire tube marine boilers.
That car works exactly like steam driven generators in power generation
Boiler generators steam that is heated again and is superheated steam, which turns the high pressure turbines, the steam exhausted than turns a intermediate turbine and finally a low pressure turbine....Steam is than exhausted to the condensers were it flashes to what is called condensate water and the cycle begins again
A little more complicated than that but basically the way it works
Not all that long ago steam would power equipment. We had the last derrick in the city of New York that was powered by steam. There was the Derick engineer who ran the crane and he was the only person who still held that licence.
The fireman was responsible for operating the boiler.
I pulled many a tube and replaced it on that boiler..... The pile driver was operated by steam as was the winches and the crane itself
In the winter the fireman had to drain the boiler every night so nothing would freeze and come in early to fire it up again.....
It was a lot of work....What happened was eventually compressed air operated the winches and pile driver.
The new rig is a crawler crane which rides back and forth on a mat and the pile driver runs off of a lager diesel air compressor
Im into anything steam and I held a NYC stationary engineers licence for 45 years
So I really enjoyed the video......Thanks

Id think id be a wee bit nervous operating that car.
Steam that pressure, especially superheated is not to be fooled with
Ive seen superheater tubes a little bigger than the OD of a 2inch pipe but with 1/2 inch wall thickness that blew and they looked like twisted pretzels
If you ever saw a fire hose that had a nozzle come loose or a busted air hose under pressure flying around, thats what that tube did
So that should give you a idea of the force steam is capable of

Leno and one of his restorers had that Doble at one of the flings in Woodley Park, probably a decade or so ago. Prior to the electric cars, what struck me was how quiet it was..... till the boiler lit.
I was having one of my straight eight cylinder heads surfaced at Evans speed a couple years ago, and looked at something odd in the corner of the shop. Shop manager said it was a transfer case for one of Jay Leno's steam cars.

Well that's.......different.
