Ok guys I've got a problem that I need some advice on and I'm drawing on the infinite wisdom of the FABO forum members. My employer gives me a company car (currently a 2009 Ford Taurus X crossover). I like the current car and I'm supposed to keep it for 4 years or 90,000 miles. Well I guess that the gas/maintenance on this car is killing them so I got a e-mail from the company saying that I'm getting another new car after just 2 years and 38,000 miles. Not altogether a bad thing you might say but here's the problem. My choices are a Dodge Grand Caravan Mainstreet or a Subaru outback (YUK). Anyway I don't know that I want to be driving a minivan but at least it's American and it's helping my favorite manufacturer. I like the fact that there is a lot of room for my tools/parts and luggage and that I won't have to have an engineering degree just to pack all of my stuff into it. The Subaru does have one thing goining for it and it's hard to ignore it where I live and it's all wheel drive. My Dodge Caliber R/T has it and I've never seen anything like it in the snow. I just can't seem to bring myself to pull the trigger on the RICE!!!!!!. What do you guys think?

I say subaru and all wheel drive. Mini vans are for soccer moms! But seriously, the subaru would be way more fun to drive than a van.

I think all you need to do is test drive both to see which one you could live with better.

When we found out we had a 2nd set of twins on the way we scrapped our plans to get a 4wd Dakota 4 door & bought a new 2000 Grand Caravan AWD. I hated the idea of owning/driving a mini-van but I have to admit that it was the most practical vehicle for us at the time. It was comfortable, dependable, & it's amazing how much crap you can carry in one. In general, the Dodge had very few problems & cost us very little in repairs (about $250, IIRC) up until it was totaled in 2009 with 103,000 miles on it. It had never even needed struts or an alignment & was on it's third set of tires. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd buy another new one because they don't offer Awd any more & where I live it's really nice to have.

So, if you think you can get by without AWD, the van would probably be great but boring. If you think you need AWD the Suburu would probably be the better choice & I'd imagine a LOT more fun to drive.

Well thanks for all of you help guy's. It looks like there is going to be rice in my future. Well I hear it goes well with a fortune cookie LOL.
