Well, I now have the torsion bars in, steering cross link in, the z-bar installed, the starter installed, and the 340 hypo exhaust manifold installed. Looking ahead to installing the exhaust pipe on the driver side. Precious little room in there to fit that pipe through. :realcrazy:. I don't have the exhaust pipes yet, so I'm hoping that they are designed to just squeeze through. I chose not to go with headers so as to avoid this kind of issue, thinking that the original design would accommodate better. Now, I'm questioning that logic.

Any suggestions (or words of encouragement) would be appreciated.

If you are looking for a direct fit, TTI makes head pipes specifically for this application. I am swapping my headers for manifolds and plan on going this route on my Scamp. I used their complete exhaust system on a 74 Duster years ago with 340 hi po manifolds and it fit perfectly (manifolds back system with head pipes, H-pipe, dynomax mufflers, tail pipes and SS exhaust tips)

Is that on an Early A body? If so, you might need one of those deals that @Treblig made years ago.
Not unless He's modified the driver's side manifold to work with power steering. Otherwise, the 340 driver's side manifold is a no go with power steering in an early A. It can be made to fit, though, I believe.

I believe you're right. I got him mixed up with Charlie in FL that has an early A. :BangHead: Now that I went and stalked a little bit, this Charlie has a 68 Dart 340 four speed.

Sorry about that. I usually do, but I posted on several topics yesterday, and the brain farted in between the last 2.

JDM was correct above...'68 Dart, 340, 4 spd. Oh, and it's yellow...probably a deciding factor.

The 2 1/2" TTI manifold down pipe in my '70 Dart has a factory dent for torsion bar clearance. I'm about to add another small dent for center link clearance.

Looks like TTI clearances the pipe on the drivers side if you have a std trans or auto with column shift. If you have auto floor shift there is no clearance noted.

get your head pipes from Accurate Limited - they will want the casting numbers on your exhaust manifolds when you order. Rather than putting big dents in the pipe they use a smaller pipe until it gets through the tight spot.

Factory pipes were dented for clearance as well, apparently some worse than others due to factory tolerances. No 2 cars are the same
