Just wondering about others thoughts on some of the better aftermarket timing chain and gear sets for a small-block. Seriously considering the Edelbrock set, but was wondering if my money would be better spent elsewhere. The main two I have considered are the eddy and the comp sets but I am open to inexpensive suggestions.

I run an Edelbrock in mine and spin it to 7000 with a flat tappet cam and no problems. Had to ditch the oil slinger though to use it.

Thanks for the replies guys... you know with the questions that I have asked and the answers I keep getting I might build a half-way decent motor for my dart... all I have to say is this site is much better than MOPARFORUMS.com, because I never got answers there.

I use a Cloyes in my 340, has over 50,000 hard street miles and a full season of drag racing and is tight as it was when new. I bought this unit twenty years ago when I originally built this engine.

For my 318 for the cuda I bought a Mancini racing house brand double roller timing set, it was the cheapest available and was an upgrade over the stock stuff that had a plastic coated cam gear.

For street use I would think any double roller timing set will be fine, never heard of one failing.

I've been using Cloyes since I've been building engines, never had one fail.

I would use what ever chain brand you like and add a tensioner to it.

Well, I know what I like and what I will most likely go with...was just looking for recommendations. I actually have changed my final decision and narrowed down now to either the edelbrock that I already mentioned or a Lunati set. I am on a huge Lunati (Holley Corp) kick right now just because of the way I was treated on a tech line. These guys don't have just some knothead sitting there waiting to answer the phone and ask you a hundred or more prewritten questions... they have people there that are actually tech savvy, friendly, and more than willing to help you find what you want. PLus, from the feedback I have gotten about all of their products... they are good quality too. More than likely I have chosen the lunati, but we will see if someone changes my mind.

Either way...Lunati's Voodoo is just about one of the best cams out there so I'll stick with them for now.

I like the Summit Billet rollers with a tensioner. Second choice is Comp billets.
