Anyone had advise on how to remove the timing set off a 340? Looks like the upper gear key has a lip at the end that is keeping the gear from sliding off. How do I deal with this?

Looks like it might be a home made key. Not very uncommon. Just dress it as mentioned. Then get two large screwdrivers 180* apart behind the gear and walk it right off.

When I do thing like that I like to make a dam with duck tape or something sticky so the filings fall on the tape and stick to it

Keeps the key from falling into the pan too if it is homade.
That key also appears slightly high on the forward end, which sometimes makes it hard for the sprocket to come over it.

walk the crank and cam gear(s) forward at the same time (move one forward a slight bit then the other) then back & forth.
