Maybe I am missing something, but I can't find the timing tab on my motor. It is a 1965 Dodge Dart, with a lates 70's 318 in it. I have read that the older water pumps will block the tab, but I am not even sure if it is on the drivers or passenger side, or just simply missing. If someone could post a picture I would really appreciate it.

I will take a pic tommorow but here is a rule to remember. (hope I do) There are some or all 273 LA series motors that had a timing tab that went on the timing cover. If you took it off and didn't put it back on your screwed. Most 360/ 318 motors have it in the cast on the cover, drivers side. Check and see if its there, maybe heavy paint or yuck on it, or you could have a 273 cover on a 318 block. If you need a cover I have a brand new one I had as a back up. 75 bucks +shipping and its yours...

Hello
You can get bolt on timming tabs, they go on the pas side of the timming cover. Some covers have them on the pas side, some on the driver side, and I've also seen them with no tabs.
I might have an nos bolt on tab left if you need one.

Ok I found timing tab it is on mounted on the timing chain cover, the problem is I have the old style water pump which blocks the tab. I tried for about an hour with different angles, even got under the car, but I could not see the mark. Does anyone have any ideas?

You should be able to remove the lower rad hose and that will make it visible. Of course, this means you will have to drain the system and run your car with no coolant while timing it.

I am going to change the intake manifold next weekend, so I have to drain the radiator anyway, I'll remove the bottom hose and give that a try.
