timing tape glue

-
I never liked those crazy tapes. Mopar gave us the measurements years ago so I would measure over and mark say 34 and 36 total with a white paint stick. Now with already marked ATI dampers I mark 36 and go off of that. I love white paint sticks and mark a lot of stuff with them. Buy a new water heater write the date on it.

I had prior thought about just useing it as a ruler with a paint stick as I only need a few measurements (initial/total & a few numbers on either side of that} but I am going to glue the hell out of this one. RR

Don't use anything. Nothing EVER holds. Do this instead.

Use a stagger tape to to measure the circumference of the balancer. Circumference divided by 360 degrees equals inches per degree. Multiply inches per degree by the number of degrees you want to mark on the balancer. Example:

I used 3-m Super Weather Strip Adhesive I had on hand. It's a tube of 3-M contact glue that's thick comes in yellow and black

I used clear engine enamel on mine 14 years ago. It never came loose but it yellowed and made it difficult to see the marks.
Better to scribe your marks thru the tape and then take it off.

good comprehensive info & very much appreciated. I think I will confirm the TDC slit then glue the sh-t out of it & for backup scribe the marks on the side using it as a ruler. RR

Be sure to confirm the tape is correct for the diameter of the damper you have.

Just put clear packaging tape over it, it will stick if the balancer is clean.

I have used contact cement [ glue ] many times. I must have been lucky.....

I used rubber cement. Then after it dries put another coat over top. Been on there close to 10 years

A sticky cituation, indeed.
I make sure the balancer is clean with new paint, then I just stick the tape on, and then a couple good coats of clear paint.
Works for me.

Only had it come off once, should buy a lottery ticket!! I have put it on backwards……no laughing! :)
