Quick question for you guys.

I have a 402 crate motor in my 68 Dart which I believe is the 360 magnum motor. I am wanting to get some timing tape but don't know what to buy. I searched the web some and could not find any real answer.

So, can anyone point me to the right Mopar part number or some part number off of Jegs or Summit Racing or give me some pointers please.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

you have to measure your damper, then search for "msd timing tape" and i´m sure you will find the correct length for your engine. Summit has got them.

I just got some stuff from summit too. I wish I'd ordered some of that while I was at it. POstage is gonna cost me more than the part.
(sorry to hijack the thread)

the msd timing tape comes with a bunch of diferent tapes on one sheet.or get a mr gasket tape.mine has both lol

I did the timing tape thing years ago on a balancer…it came off in less than a week. The second time I put it on I used one of those silver pens that write on anything and marked off the first 40° in 5° increments; then 90°, 180°, and 270° after that. Sure enough the tape fell off again, but this time I still had my marks.

I would be willing to bet better prep work on the balancer would have made it stick better...apparently I didn't clean it REALLY well.

i clean the balancer good then apply the tape then apply clear box tape the stuff you get anywhere, they stay along time this way,it works good for cheap

Yeah prep cleaning is the key to timing tape. I went through one that lasted about a week. Got another one which took awhile because I had to wait until I was buying something else from Summit to justify the cost.

All you need is the balancer, timing cover and a triangle file.

I have been told to apply the tape and then clear coat it to seal it up.
