I am tossed as to whether I need to buy a leaf relocation kit. With the right backspace I am sure I can get a 235/60/15 drag radial in my car and with a leaf relocation kit a 255/60/15 drag radial. I do not think a 71 scamp wheel well will handle a 275/60/15 tire. I have ss leafs and will be adding a pinion snubber and at a later date slide link or cal tracs. 4.10's will be going in rear.
My 408 I am expecting close to 500 ft/lbs torque and will add a 100 shot of nos. The million dollar question is will a 235/60/15 drag radial tire handle this and would going to a 255 make much of a difference aprox. 1/2" extra width. I do not want slicks but also do not want to be always spinning my tires.Opinions appreciated.

install the spring relocation kit first then measure the space you have available inside the wheelhouse and the distance to the front lip from the center of the axle. a 275 should fit then but you may need to trim/move the front lip forward.

once I did the relocation thing a 29.5x10.5Wx15 slick fit but I did have to trim the front lip. of course it's not a scamp but you can see the space to the front lip

I got 275s under my 71 Dart with MP offset shackes and some lip trimming. With 500 ft lbs of torque I'm thinking you're going to need the 275s.

Thanks guys.
I really don't want to trim lip at same time I need grip I am hoping for 11's. Does it make that much difference with only 1/2 inch extra tread? Btw I learned the hard way I bought a set of weld wheels with 275/60/15's off a duster and they stick outside my wheel wells about an inch and when I put my hand up the wheel well I lose even more.

the 235 will fit no prob, the 255 will fit with right rim, the 275 need the 3/4 kit and either trim frt lip or move axle back I moved the axle back 1in.

I have got some 255x60Rx15's on the back of my 71 Dart on 8x15x4.5 back spacing. still had to trim a little on the lip on the whell well opening.

SBDART that looks sweet! The main thing I am worried about is hooking. I dont want to be all spin and go nowhere lol

I used to run the hoosier qtp 27x10.5x15 which is a 255/60 and went 11 teens no problem at all on hook.

Thanks... I now have a Dana 60 w/ 4.10 gears on SS Spring with MP offset shackes kit. 416 engine with 480 to 500 ft lbs torque also an a 904 trans.

I don't think it will spin to bad. if so I will live with it just a street ride that's all it is.

Be sure to move the axle as was said before. It will keep you from having to trim the front of the wheel well. Next you can mini tub it for even more tire.
