The weather is getting nice, and I should be busting the Blown Duster out of storage. Something has to offset all that fuel consumption though :D :burnout:

So, it's time to break out the ol' Yamahog. She hasn't moved in years, ever since the fuel tank sprang a leak (crack at the seam). Not to forget, that I found 2 mice that got trapped in the Oil Mix Tank on the Assembly Line (bigger than the fill port on the tank :wack: ) and I had to gut and flush the 2-stroke mixing system.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago. I soldered the gas tank and sealed the inside of it with RedKote. Rebuilt the Autolube Mixing Pump, Repainted the Bike (it was getting pretty faded), upgraded to LED bulbs in the Brake Light and Turn Signals, Built a Cargo/Luggage Rack for her (hey, gotta haul a case somehow :D ) and ordered a new rear tire and some NOS Throttle Cables for her.

Her she was a few days ago. I've since installed the cables and rear tire, now I've just gotta take her to get inspected.








The Red is a custom mix of a bunch of different leftovers I had on the shelf. There's a bit of Rallye Red, Candy Apple, Black Cherry and some Mystery Red (that no longer had a label on it) and some metal flake in the mix.

My joke over the last week or so has been. "It runs, but I think there's something wrong with it... It smokes." :D Only two or three people have actually got that joke.

I uses to have a 75 Yamaha RD250
great machine, a side by side 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine
someone had abandoned it in the church basement ages ago
my sister in law (whose husband was a deacon at the time) had gotten me permission to take since it was in their way and would never run again anyway

turned out "never" was about 15 minutes with a can of carb cleaner

I'm still kicking myself for selling that bike


on a side note, your chain looks a little bit tight to me?
(of course, all my bikes are offroad or dirt bikes so I might allow for a little slack then road bikes need)
 
In my lifetime I have had a few non road legal Yamaha's and my favorite out of them was the DT360.
It was a single cyl two stroke.
My friends and I always ditched those damn oil mixing system and just mixed the fuel because if you ran out of oil in the injection system the bike would still run and burn itself up (Usually seizing the piston to the cylinder, but if you mixed it yourself and ran out of oil you were also out of gas. :D
This stopped the possibility of running out of oil and seizing the engine.

Good point on the mixing system. Thanks for reminding me, I've gotta plug the Oil Level Sensor back in... Right now she has a full tank of oil, but the sensor isn't plugged in, so the Oil light on the Tach constantly flashes to tell me "it's low on oil" :D


On an off-road bike, mixing the gas/oil would be fine (and I even considered it for driving on the street). I'm gonna use her to commute to work on nice days, it would be a pain having to haul quarts of Mix on the bike with me, and mix it on the spot at the gas pumps.

I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of my '69 Honda CB350 and my '74 CB200.

The pictures are deceiving, the chain is actually a little loose on the bike. I may have to adjust things a bit.

I also bought this last year, for a restoration project. A 1971 Suzuki TS250 Savage 2-Stroke.




I have almost all of the parts gathered up for the '71, just gotta find the time to tear her down for a restoration. On the plus side, it runs great!

Sorry, been at the U pick it to get a 42RH OD trans for the Dart and pulling that thing laying on the ground, using hand tools only and with no jack or help, so I'm hurting a bit right now.
I'll post an update on that later in a different thread.

It's a tank for sure with craploads of torque and bottom end and does 85 topped out.
Even geared real high and still a tank and idling in first you would have to trot to stay up with it.
I wanted to start riding some street when I got my drivers license and narrowed it down to two bikes.
One a Suzuki GT750 three cylinder two stroke and a mint condition CB350 twin, and even though that Suzuki would smoke the tire all the way up an onramp in third and hit the freeway at over 100 I picked the Honda and was never sorry.
Damn good little bike and reliable as a rock and I even took some multi thousand mile trips on it.

An oil light is a good thing, but it is powered by a light bulb so ...:D

I know how you feel as my youngest Son Rides an 1100 Shadow and I worry about him.
The people around here don't know what turn signals are and when a light turns orange they jump back a forth between lanes jockeying for position while everyone is having to stop.
It really IS look out for your life around here, and I don't think I have ever lived anywhere where people did as much stupid stuff in traffic.

It makes me a little more comfortable that he rode dirt bikes for ten years before he went to street.
Kinda like me in that way, and there were definitely a few times I am sure it paid off for me.

My grandfather has a 74 Suzuki GT550 3-Cylinder 2-Stroke and you're right, that thing will bend the speedometer needle in the blink of an eye.

My little 78 DT175 is a brute too, torquey, high winding. Of course I only weigh 115, so that tiny bike doesn't even notice im there. That's why I love 2 Strokes, they've got balls, big ones, despite their small size in comparison to a larger 4 Stroke
 
I went out of town today to look at a couple of early 1970s Honda CT70s. I love the look of them, but I had to pass, because they both needed a lot of work and parts for them can be pricey!

Used to be able to pick those up for a couple hundred bucks but not anymore.
RV people started buying them up so much that they pretty much skyrocketed in price compared to what they used to be.

I used to have one of them. It was a free bike that had been given to me (probably 16 years ago).

I don't know what happened, I remember it ran (and my little sister flopped it on its side). But for whatever reason it got parked, forgotten about and was 'accidentally' hauled off for scrap when a family member offered to 'help' clean up around the shop. :wack:

Mine's an '07, but it's one of the modern styles. :D

The last new bikes I checked out were Harleys and Indians. The Harley dealer... well, that dude had an attitude and acted like he didn't even want me near the bikes (and I was shopping to buy). So my friends and I went a couple miles down the road to the Indian dealer (3 of us were looking to buy bikes...well 2 were looking to buy their first bikes and I was looking to expand my collection).

The Indian dealer, he was a nice guy. Let us all try out the bikes we thought would be a good fit. As soon as he found out I was into vintage japanese bikes, he says "You've gotta see the back room, man." It was all 60's - 80's Jap bikes that people had traded in or sold.

My first street bike was a '75 Honda CB550 that I did up in a cafe racer style. Dual disks up front, clip on's, solo seat and rear-sets located off the passenger peg hangers. I ran that bike around in a bunch of different configurations, pretty much tore it down every few weeks and changed a bunch of stuff. This is one of the later versions, using a heavily modified CB750 fuel tank. That was after I got rid of the airbox and rewired the whole thing to hide all of the electrics under the seat.

This is the same bike even later, mocked up with an old Ducati tank and a new solo seat with the frame modified to match and with a nice shouldered aluminum front rim. I never rode it like this though, I bought the Speed Triple and never got around to re-doing all the electrics again. My girlfriends stock CB550F is in the background. I've still got a few of the vintage bikes, but I've got too many car projects at the moment to work on them. I'll be lucky to get the Speed Triple to the track this year.

whats yours? is that a speed triple? its cool as hell looking. fas as hell too i'll bet...

i'd like a touring style bike next. won't get rid of my thruxton but i want something like a sport touring bike or maybe even an adventure bike like a triumph tiger.

love to have a vintage yamaha or honda too.. really like those honda CBs...
