i got a sb in storage on a stand. Loosened rocker arms, drained the oil and put oil (may have been Marvel Mystery oil) in the cylinders. Would you spin it periodically? Or would that wipe the oil film off the cylinders and bearings?
Oil was old, and I knew i would need new in when it comes out of storage so thought it would be best to get the used oil out. Just sits in the bottom of the pan anyway, doesn’t it?Why would you drain the oil ? If its in storage fill it up with oil don't drain it out.

Just for my knowledge, what is the reason? My thought was turn it 1 1/2 revolution just to change positions of the rings on cylinder walls, bearing surfaces, etc. It may sit for a long time, backup motor for when I blow up my 408.Not with the rockers back off, no.
I've got 67 273 commando engine here. It will need rebuild. Dedicated 1/2" pull bar and a socket stays on it so I can stop there and turn it from time to time. WD40 from a gallon can in a pump spray bottle stays there too. A few squirts in each spark plug hole from time to time. I might turn twice in 2 weeks or might be 3 months since turned. Varies with how much time I spend near it ( I might turn it today ).
Hey stranger. I forget about them. I'll PM you. When you going to come pick up these 302 swirl port heads?
I would turn it.... it is amazing how a little rust can 'weld' rings to a cylinder wall.....Just for my knowledge, what is the reason?
