Dang.
I spotted an ad this week for a '62 Valiant Signet, "free for removal". Missing the engine, partly dismantled, plus a freshly rebuilt TorqueFlite available for $100. "Only" an 8 hour drive away from me.
I immediately called the owner. Turns out, he bought this car new! He told me it's rusty and that he started to try to fix it but, at 75 years of age, he's run out of steam. Most disappointingly, he'd already sort of promised it to another caller.
I phoned again this morning but the poor old guy's now in the hospital. His wife said someone came to look at the Valiant and seemed pleased. However, that guy's having trouble figuring out how to come and pick it up.
I asked her or her husband to please call me if that falls through and I'll be there immediately. Well, within 8 hours, anyway. Oh well, there's another Signet out there with my name on it, I'm sure. And heck, there's no such thing as a free old car!
