This was an afterthought - we are going Friday A.M., though so if anyone sees this...?

...trying to help a friend who is going to look at a 1965 Barracuda.
I finally made a deal on the one I ostarted a thread about, just have to finish the details$.

~Q=Anyway,...1965 V8 car...I think the VIN is in the Driver's door jamb?

~Q=Trim tag is on the driver's inner fender, right?

~Q=On the V8, where is the # that would decode it?

On Chevy stuff, there used to be a casting #, telling what the engine was in raised letters...thena stampled in, that was more of a sequence # only. Did these Mopars do something similar?

Once we get it, where to decode it? I found a VIN decoder, but?

THANKS!

on the side of the engine, {if I recall correct;drivers side} hidden by the exhaust manifold is casting numbers.

The fender tag should have a 30 (2bbl) or 31 (4bbl.) under the upper case AB if it's an original V8 car. The VIN should start V85 for a '65 V8 Barracuda. The V and 8 should be stamped into the plate from the outside whereas the 5 and the rest of the numbers are stamped into the plate from the backside. As caveman has listed there various block castings above the starter and below the head gasket on the drivers side of the block. There is also a stamped year code and engine size on the front of the block on the drivers side just below the head gasket. For a '65 model is should say A273 (bring a flashlight and scraper!). The VIN is not stamped into the engine so there is really no "matching numbers" other than the casting numbers and date codes. Your other presumptions are correct.

Wow - GREAT! Thanks a lot.

The people on here sure have been a big help (and part of the reason I decided to try to go ahead and get these two cars).

Funny - I had a real time convinceing the old guy the
Valiant (I know the ditinctuionve look of those...and it's a 1964)
was not a "1963",
and
(admittedly I had to ask on here for clarification on this)...
that the "1964" Barracuda he had was actually a 1965.

And he HAS titles with the right years ON them...but he just thinks they are wrong!

Funny - there's some other stuff out ther in his "collection". Kind of all over the map, but all rust-free NV cars.
1947 New Yorker, etc..
No rhyme or reason to it!
