Would it throw off the balance if I took off around .060-.100 of the flex plate ring? It bottoms out against the PTC convertor before the mounting lugs do. When I tighten it up you can see the flex plate "bend" until the bolts bottom out.
What engine is it for? A 5.2 is internally balanced, but a 5.9 has weight added to the flex plate. Could you not just Super Glue washers that are thick enough to prevent the bind to the torque converter lugs?
