Anyone going to Mopars at the Strip?,,, sorry Muscle cars at the Strip.

April 27 - 29
The website says info on the free Cannery concerts is "coming soon".

This may be my year to drive my Dart to the MATS.
Have my magnum engine swap done, car is running and looking great.
Just need to talk my brother into coming along to share the driving, and gas / hotel costs.

Anyone else going for sure?

Cannery was sold to Boyd Gaming and didn't invite Phil back. The Grand Hotel near Fremont Street is where the new headquarters hotel is. $89/night with 600 rooms, so it is cheaper and bigger, plus the insanity of Freakmont right next door! I haven't missed it in 15 years, but I am staying at the track in my LQ trailer this year.

This is year 16 for me. The Cannery has been bought by another company and talk was that there may not be a evening show(s) there. Not to worry I'm sure Phil will have some other plan by April. And the track is now 4 wide. But MATS will only be using 2. That's all folks !

I am thinking about flying over to go next year. How many cars are in attendance and how does it compare to the nationals in Columbus if anyone has been to both?

Just like the nationals the economy has allot to do with total numbers. So far things have always looked good even in the worst years.Mainly the Vendors were few and far between but is now coming back a little. Internet took a big chunk out of vendor participation. Always a good field of racers. And the brand X cars make up about 1%.

Here's the link to the new host hotel for the event.

Welcome to the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas

Hmmm, doesn't look bad but I'm a little concerned about parking my dart downtown. I called the Grand, and they do have their own parking garage, which is complimentary for guests. It would be cool to stay at the host hotel, if that's where the concerts will be, but sounds like that is still up in the air.

The parking garage is across the street and relatively secure, besides there are MUCH nicer cars than an old Dart that will be in there, LOL!

Does not even compare to the Nationals. The drag racing is cool. I ran a couple of passes in the true street shootout. The drive to Vegas was the best part of going. We stayed in a La Quinta close to the track. There was 20 or so others staying there and had no problems with theft or vandalism. We stayed 3 nights.

When I was there a guy ran a red light and t boned 71 challenger rt. In front of me. Door dings build character

Anyone know anything about the group that leaves from either Denver or Grand Junction to cruise to the mats?

It should be a link on the website. That cruise was the best. We stopped and took pics on the Hoover damn. We had about 150 Mopars on the Cruise

The safety of our cars is just about the same anywhere when you leave your garage.Last year at the track someone keyed a big V in the door of my lowly Valiant. And I was in my camper 10 feet away ! Now these were car people at a car event. When you take them out,,you take your chances. I still can't figure out why someone would pick on this poor little Valiant. But it won't stop me from going this year.

I did check the website and all I saw about cruises were the ones leaving from Arizona, New Mexico, and California.

I thought those where the only ones. We met up in Mesa Arizona and met the the guys from New Mexico in Phoenix I think. They may have changed it. Try contacting the group from one of those three to see if they have info.

Not worried about it being stolen as much as some idiot door dinging me.

I've left my car both at the track & the host hotel lot. Never had a problem, but I do try to park near other Mopars. Most classic car owners are extremely careful & conscious of door dings etc.

I thought of driving to Arizona and joining the cruise from there, but that would ad several hours to my drive

From the Mopars & Musclecars at the strip Facebook page.

"Night Time Entertainment will move in 2018 To the magnificent Downtown Event Center adjacent to Fremont Street Experience".

Several hours extra may be worth it for you. We have a large group of Mopars that meet on Thursday morning for breakfast & then cruise together to Vegas. A scheduled stop at the Dodge dealer in Kingman, AZ clears its lot for us to show our cars & then serves lunch. It's a great group of people :D

The wife registered us last week. We are towing our '74 Duster down. We bought it as a box of parts. I managed to get most of the front sheet metal installed and aligned today. It has a '68 Dart frontend and a '71 Demon tail light panel. I am calling it a '68 Demon. It should be the slowest car on the track. We'll be with the Slant Six guys.
