Torn Bicep Tendon

-
Seen the surgeon today and he confirmed that I have a torn proximal bicep tendon. And I also have a tear in the extonsor tendon too. I'm having another MRI but with contrast and the surgery will be in a couple weeks, if I go through it. The extensor tendon is the tennis elbow tendon and I received a injection today and it hurts like hell.

Just know this is a surgery you can recover 100% from.

Yikes!

Had a separated rotator cuff a couple of years ago. Surgery worked out great but the recovery was about 5.5 months. Hope you are not left handed, it's not easy to learn to do things with your non-dominant hand.

I'm surprised they gave you an injection (I am assuming it was cortizone). They tried that on me before they confirmed the tear and it just made the pain worse.

I'm not. $$$$$$$$$$$$ I had trigger finger. They wanted to inject and then after a series of questions I posed they told me they would do 1-2 injections that might provide temporary relief and ultimately I'd get surgery. SP WHY NOT CUT TO THE CHASE AND SAVE TIME GRIEF AND MONEY. Ended up working with my massage therapist who remarkably was able to fix it permanently. Her treatment on it hurt so bad it would make me sweat...but it worked. Being a doctor is an occupation like any other and in the US they treat symptoms first and the cause, if you are lucky, second. Again $$$$$$$

Just had a MRI of my shoulder and along with the torn bicep tendon I have a rotator cuff tendon tear and another tendon tear that I forgot what the doc called it. So I having surgery on Tuesday to repair all three.

I suffer form that. Hurts like a sumofabeech....Had carpal tunnel surgery on both sides a while back. Surgeon said he would not be surprised if he had to go back into my hands again...if I remember correctly trigger finger is often caused by the pads in your hands being excessively thick. Between the thick pads and scar tissue from the surgery it is almost like I have carpal tunnel again. I can't even close my left hand into a fist anymore....my right hand is not that much better.

Hopefully the op's bicep tendon has more than a few fibers still holding it on. If not they may just have to snip it like they did to mine. The other day I was standing in line at HF with a 10 pound spool of mig wire in my hand. Had my arm curled so that the spool was pinned between my body and hand...in under a minute my bicep started twitching and the pain increased noticeably.

I was told by my surgeon that often times when they take images of a shoulder that they are not all that helpful....often times when they go into shoulder they will find more damage than what showed up on the images...and sometimes stuff that did not even show up. Good Luck Sir...

Glad I didn't get the surgery and found another treatment option.

My grip strength is similar to an anaconda.

I had surgery on October 21 and I'm starting therapy on Tuesday. I had a torn short bicep tendon which was repaired thru a 2 inch incision by my armpit. The rotator cuff and labrum were repaired thru a 3 inch incision over my shoulder. The joint had significant arthritis around it and was cleaned up.
Th pain level is manageable but I'm never going to be able to throw a 100 mph fastball.

The big question is, could you throw a 100mph fast ball before?? Glad to hear they got a lot fixed. I went thru a lot of the same surgery in March of this year. The MOST IMPORTANT thing is do exactly and ONLY what the docs say. Ask the Doc about an ice water machine to help with pain. Tendons heal very slowly. You may feel fine but don't over do it.
Good Luck,
Mike

Holy Cow!!!!! Those pic. look painful! Sorry to read about this. Here's hoping for a speedy and painless recovery, though I doubt it will be either. Geez!

Neither could Jim Morris, but after all his arm surgeries, he did and had a brief major league career, beginning at the age of 35. He could throw 100 plus MPH. Ain't many people in the world can really do that.

Forget the fastball, I'd be happy to be able to dress myself right now.
Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement and your experiences, it helps out a lot.

Good luck on the PT

Do what the doctor says and don't do things you are not suppose to do. Wear your sling, it might feel like you can do something's but you can re injure it very easy.

Had rotator cuff surgery July 17th and still doing PT getting stronger but still not ready to go back to work.

FYI

FOR CARPEL TUNNEL.............

Had wife's back surgeon tell me to take 100 mg of GRAPE SEED EXTRACT a day. Been doing this for over 2 years and my hands have never felt better

Have had problems since I played drums in 7th grade, thought everyone's hands did that. When I had my shoulder problem they sent me out at work and had hands checked and they said severe bi lateral carpel tunnel.

They are not 100% but can do most things without the numbness like driving! doing most jobs and riding motorcycle

Mowing still will cause some numbness but use anti vibration gloves

Good stuff, as is hemp oil and coconut oil.

If any of you guys use a nutribullet, they are GREAT. You can add some of this in there.

You can also cook with grapeseed oil vs. veg oil or olive oil. (not that olive oil is bad for you because it isn't)

I go in for round 2 of surgery on my right shoulder on the 20th. A partial tear that they "cleaned up" in the first surgery has progressed into a full tear. All the bone spurs and tendons are fine now, just had the luck of being the only one in 30+ years of practice the surgeon has seen this happen to. Then when I get healed up from that, I get to have my left shoulder done. It kinda looks like my 2015 is gonna suck just as bad as 2014 did.

WOW! That really sucks. Best of luck to you.
