should i build a 904 or a 727?i have a 904 in the car,but it is mated to a slant 6.i want a trans that well handle lots of hp.i well get a j w ultra bell for the trans that i do build so it well mated to a big block.

confusing post. all /6 cars came the 904 only. small block v8 cars came with either the 904 or 727. all big blocks came with a 727 only. the /6 904 is specific to the slant 6

for a smallblock, a 904 is what i would use. you can build them up to hold substantial amounts of power...

sorry about the confusing post .i'am building a high power big block.what trans should i uses

On my 360 in my 74 swinger I will be running a built 727 that is supposed to hold upto 650 HP and currently have a 727 behind it now and it puts out around 400 HP

My dad uses a 727 on his big block 68 charger for 20 years no probs with 450 hp going through it

And he has a buddy that has a 900 HP big block dragcar with a built 727 and had a built 904 behind it before that grenaded mid way through a pass

Is there an adaptor plate to run a 904 behind a big block that would work? Bellhousing wrong size for your buddy to run 904 behind his big block?

He used the 904 when he had a smallblock pushin 650 HP. Meant to put he had a smallblock in it before he switched to a bigblock

so the 727 is the trans to use.what is a good place to get parts to upgrade it?

For any serious big block I'd use a 727. You can build a 904 to handle the power but it becomes real expensive real fast and with big block torque you won't see any appreciable gain running a 904. If your racing a heads up class and need that every last .01 the 904 is the way to go but again it'll cost ya. There are several good places to get parts. Andrews Racing http://www.andrewsracingtrans.com/Transmissions/727/index.html and Cope Racing Trans. http://www.coperacingtrans.com/ are members here on the board and are very knowledgeable and stand up guys. Rick Allison at A&A Transmission http://www.aandatrans.com/ is also very knowledgeable and honest.
