Can any mopar maniacs tell how to identify what trans. I have in my 1974 gold duster base model? Car came with a 318 from factory. I can't find the numbers 727 or 904 on the case anywhere. Found numbers on the passenger side plate and on the drivers side pan lip but no 727 or 904.thanks for the help!!!

Look at the shape of the pan. A 904 pan is shaped like a rectangle with the corner cut off. A 727 is sort of the same shape, but has a dogleg added near the front passenger side of the pan, near the dipstick tube.

Get down on your knees or whatever on the passenger side and look at the side of the trans. A 904 has a STRAIGHT sided pan, the 727 has a big bulge towards the front of the side of the pan.
