Trick Flow heads

Got my back ordered Trick Flow heads yesterday and had to open the box to see these sexy beauties. I’m glad I did because I found out that these heads require specific head studs (or bolts), specific rocker shaft studs (or bolts) and specific rocker arms! I was fortunate enough to receive a 10% off coupon that I used when I placed the order from Summit a month ago but had no idea I needed to order more stuff to use these heads. I’m pissed off at Summit for not making that clear when I placed the order….ok, I’m pissed at myself for not doing the research. lol

So today I placed another order to get the right head studs, rocker shaft studs and Harland Sharp roller rockers and boxed up all the wrong parts I had to send back. $1287 later, I have what I need coming on Saturday.

I know someone will tell me I could have gone with Mancini rockers instead but that’s not true. I called Mancini and was told their rockers were designed for standard geometry heads and not to be used in high horsepower applications with Trick Flow heads.

You got some nice parts in buying the harland sharp rockers but I have to say the guy from mancini gave you some bad info. Harland sharp builds the mancini rockers for them and a bunch of guys (me included) are running them on the trickflow heads. The geometry is really nice with the mancini rockers/trickflows as well.

Yeah, I’ve read that numerous times and the guy at Mancini confirmed their rockers are indeed manufactured by Harland Sharp but not recommended for high Hp application. My frustration isn’t that I have to run a certain setup, it’s with not knowing when I ordered the heads. Could have saved time and money had I known…. lol
 
I agree with the above, the mancini rockers have been problem free for me for 4 years and the geometry is damn near perfect. I don't know what power my engine makes but it runs 10s in the 1/4 and a best of 6.67 in the 1/8th, so far.
 
My dad has the mancini 1.6 rockers on his engine. Solid flat tappet right around .600 lift. Hasn't had any issues, but I wouldn't necessarily consider his engine high HP. Probably making mid to low 500 HP.
 
the trickflow 190 page lists their bolts/studs as a required item... i'm waiting for a summit code to show up before i order mine...
 
BTW.. they are beautiful... i have had mine sitting on a desk at work for a week now.... just brightens up the place :)
 
For others wondering what components to use:

Myself and another member here are running 1.6 Erson roller rocker assemblies w/B3E mild correction. Mike there mentioned to me that these rockers would work, as will others, but that there were better rockers for these heads. The Harland Sharp or Mancini rockers are almost perfect needing minimal correction (if wanting the geometry spot on) as told to me by him.
The rocker fasteners can be ideally studs but bolts are ok too, I used MP billet copies with the supplied Allen bolts made by Angelucci. Not one single issue installing or in running. The head bolt/studs I believe are the only required item, IIRC.
Mike has much experience with these heads and various rockers and imo would be the man for best advice on what to run.
 
I had wanted Mancini rockers but ended up with harlands, and I have to say they are really nice quality and Randy jr over there was one of the best guys to talk to and deal with. I wouldn’t hesitate to give them my business in the future.

I wanted Harland so i got the mancinis.... :)
 
Kind of weird to say that a rocker isn't for high power applications. Rockers don't know how much power is there.

It would be more accurate to say something like they are rated for an amount of spring force and rpm.

Anyway just splitting hairs.

Anyone that's done a little bit of research on the trick flows knows they require the rockers and studs.

Nice heads....I'm jealous

Agreed, I found it weird as well. In fact, I asked the guy if he was referring to the standard rockers vs heavy duty as it seems both are available. He said no, the Mancini Rockers are for stock geometry heads and can work with lower HP builds with Trick Flow heads but not recommended on high HP builds with Trick Flow heads.

I was trying to buy their product and if they tell me it's not recommended, then I'm going to pass which I did. The correct "recommended" Harland Sharp Rockers have been ordered so I should be good.... lol

You can't go wrong with the Harland sharp/Mancini rocker but they aren't required. Recommended but not required. I run comp pro magnums with a B3 kit. I'm not trying to sway anyone or argue or anything like that. Just trying to make it known for guys that may already have rockers and not heads that the Harlands are not the only option.

I should have reached out to B3 before sending back the set of Comp Pro Magnums I had.... I knew there were options but trying to get the car built and run it this summer has me rushing. Too late now but I need to slow down and do more research. lol :mad:

know somebody here local with a 264/268 Hughes cam, 620 lift, solid lifter running those Mancini rockers. Car has run mid 10’s and gets street driven.
those rockers are fine for anything but a stout roller cam

I think it can be translated to "We make an extra $400 if you buy our branded rockers" :) Although i'm sure when you get to .700+ and 8k rpm the better ones count

The 2 sets of rockers made by HS we are talking about are made different.
The more expensive ones are worth the difference . It isn’t branding

I wasn't implying they are the same thing, and i have no doubt the name brand HS are better than the mancini.. but it kinda sounds like people are thinking they won't hold up to .600 and 300# of spring pressure... i mean.. i will find out in a few months but i think they will be ok :)

I hear you and agree with what you are saying which is why I called Mancini to begin with, however when their own employee said he wouldn't recommend running the Mancini rocker, I bit the bullet and went with the HS's. I'm already $5k over my engine budget, what's another $400... :D
