I’ve had both manifolds with carbs and regret ever selling them. Both were from Australia so I was wondering if either could be found on eBay/au. I didn’t come across any triple Weber manifolds but did find a brand new Redline triple SU manifold for HIF6 carbs from ProCsrb. It being Christmas time I decided to order my Christmas present to myself. And it arrived today. I’ve got the SU HIF6 carbs with 1.75 inch throats lined up. Might just revisit using a slant in my 47! Pictures follow:

Nice! I'd rather have SUs than the webers. I've seen the intakes used on ebay but shipping from AU and not much cheaper than the redline.

I would use Webers. Using the Webers keeps it as a true IR [ individual runner ] intake which gives better throttle response & better idle. You can also run a bigger cam with IR set ups, if you wanted too.

Redline in Hollywood, Calif, has the Webers, probably a set jetted correctly.

Yes, I wonder what the cam specs are.

A dialed in weber is better, but I love the simplicity of a cv carb. Since Webers and SUs are pricey, I've considered two or three used Harley CV carbs (Keihin 40). The rubbers (instead of SU pistons) are expensive if they need replacing but otherwise very cheap and tuneable. If I didn't need a low hood line, I'd use downdrafts.

I've never had a problem with the SU. I had a Triumph when I was a kid and got familiar with them the and I've tuned on and built many since. I kinda like um.

Sweeet! Over the years I had three different triple-SU Slant-6 intakes and at least one twin-SU intake. Brands were…let's see here. Lynx, Cain, and…h'mm. Might've been a Speco in the collection? I forget.

If you don't already, you'll want to know about Burlen.

Yes Sir, I’ve looked over the Burlen website several times. Told the wife I’m not going to get rid of this manifold no matter huw much someones cries about wanting it

I’ve acquired 3 SU HIF6 carbs which will likely need to be gone through. I will need to either source a linkage kit or construct one similar to the triple Weber I had.

@slantsixdan I sent a message to Burlsen several days ago about the rebuild kits they offer for the HIF6 with no reply as of yet. Might have to call them.

Nice..... triple carbs..... good enough for a jaguar...should be excellent here.
compared with webers you probably loose a bit at the top end but all round drivability will be much easier to achieve. its a carb with its roots in drivability for everyday cars the bigger webers have their roots in racing or bespoke configs for high end GTs.

if you want to connect up distributor vacuum advance. and you should....

one of these Anti pulse valve - vacuum - Eurocarb

smooths the way.

aftermarket version of the device used on 2 liter IDF 40 equipped alfa romeo.
those IDFs for that application had 1 barrel with a ported vacuum take off meaning 1 cylinder provided the vacuum and as such it was not consistent enough. the little device is basically a small volume with a tiny hole that acts to hammer the peaks and raise the bottom of the troughs in the vacuum seen at the distributor advance unit.... and also serve as a slight delaying mechanism so that the advance returns back to zero consistently rather than what would be dictated by the movement of that one piston.

seems expensive, search for other sources based on part number, but on my weber set up the best thing i ever did was go all "1950s" and connect up vacuum advance direct to manifold vacuum, but of course that's just from 1 cylinder. better acceleration better economy, minor flat spots/hesitation removed.

I've always liked the SUs. Very simple design. I had a 67 Triumph Spitfire when I was a kid with two on it. Taught me a lot about tuning.

Chrys Australia released a 265 cu in inline in 1970. it cam with triple 45 DCOE Webers, 4 speed manual, & was a production car. It produced 302 hp.
It did the 1/4 mile in 14.3 sec, had a 120 mph top speed & could pull away smoothly from 20 mph in high gear....

My 75 Ford F250 will do that. It will also pull off from a standing still in high gear....although under a little protest. But it does have 3.73 gears.

yeah many ways to skin the cat.. i don't have adjustable vacuum can on a australian Bosch/mopar distributor, i tried all 6 i tried 3 i tried 3 in a specific order i.e based on firing and settled on 1 with a smoother.... and another one for my airtemp control (i will need to T that to more than one its Soooooo slow) the webers have a tuning/vacuum port that is unported which with the right barbed fittings made it easy to try stuff out.

basically 1 pipe and a smoother made for a nice simple set up
