Trouble running when first starting

I have a 1973 Plymouth Duster /6 with a 1920 Holley carb.

In the morning i go out to start my car and it starts right up no problem, then is starts to idle real bad. If i don't keep it revved up then it dies and takes for ever to start, But once shes warmed up then she runs just fine. Then after she sits for like 2 or more hours she does the same thing again. What could cause this and what can i do to help stop this kind of behavior. Its really annoying!!:cussing: Ive already done all the plugs and wires and cap and rotor, adjusted the fuel mixture, adjusted the idle and the timing, What else can i do?
 
Sounds like you need to work on the choke setting. I don't know your age but fuel injection has made the days of carburetor cold starts a forgotten experience.
 
The primary choke pulls tend to leak vacuum and pull back only part way. In this case it will start fine but run too rich and flood.
 
change the rubber from the tank to the pick up line 10 - 1 its cracked weatherd and rotton . its only about 4 inches long ,look there first sounds like you don't have a solid pick up flow follow that to front then and check clamps at fuel pump then cgange filter ,if that doesn't help its a mopar they start hard but run awesome lol check all the way to carb and distributor you might want to change timing chain to a double roller but if not in line , it sounds like its in the filter or carberator. gl if its the duster take more pics and sellit to me cheap lol
 
Sounds like the choke to me. Insure the "choke pull-off" or "unloader" works. It is a vacuum pot. that pops the choke open slightly the second the engine fires. The choke must be tight while cranking. If it doesn't pop open, it will run rich. The rubber diaphram usually fails, especially if you spray carb cleaner near it. Simple to test and replace.

I had a Holley 1920 that always idled lean once the engine warmed up. Actually ~3 rebuilt ones over decades. Finally got a good one that ran super smooth. Make sure the 2 air bleeds at the top of the throat are open. You can find a free manual on-line that tells exactly how to test & fix.
 
So recently a while ago i noticed a puddle of gas on the ground under gas tank. That rubber line from the tank to the hard line was rotted bad so thats been replaced. I just went to oriellys and bought a new choke pull off and installed that, She runs like a saint now!! thank you all for your input. You guys really know your stuff! thank you!!

I was going to tell you that the choke deal can be easily verified by taking the air cleaner off and start the car.
While it's running open the choke a little by hand, and if it smoothes out that is the problem.
It works the other way too (sometimes they need more choke to stay running nicely)
You can dial that puppy in to perfection this way (by seeing what it wants)

Which reminds me, that now that it's a getting warmer I need to back my choke off a little.
If I start it and walk away without tapping the gas pedal it starts to sound a bit like it has a lopey cam in it. :)

Mine is electric and adjustable though. and doesn't use a pulloff like yours.
