True Story of the 426 HEMI Test Mule + Interviews: Bucky Hess, Steve Comella & US Nationals Action!

I bought a new 68 Road Runner, 383, 4 speed, sure grip Hard top, in January. The Dealer, Ridgewood Chrysler-Plymouth located on Metropolitan Ave. and Fresh Pond Road, had a GTX Hemi on the floor and offered it to me for $3600. I passed and paid $3000 for the RR. At the Service Dept they had a Hemi Barracuda, and being in the Service at the time I had no interest in it. I was commuting every weekend from Dover Del. to NY, so that is why I passed on the GTX. I knew gas costs would have been a lot more than I could afford on my measly $150 a month. So in 2002 I finally got a Hemi to put in my 71 Cuda.

The other problem was the money issue back then. When I was making money the muscle cars were gone. So I didn't buy a 68 Hemi, I got out of the Service in Oct. 68 and got a real job in Nov., got married in 69 and started saving for a house. I bought a 71 Duster 340, AC, PS, PB, buckets and a console Auto.. I actually ordered a 72 340, but found out no rally dash and no compression. The 71 was a leftover I bought in August of 71. So 34 years later I put a Gen 2 Hemi in my 71 Cuda.
