[WANTED] trunk part that keeps it from slamming on my head

Sorry I dont know the part or item name but I need what ever that part is that goes on the deck lid of a 1964 Barracuda that keeps the trunk from slamming shut on my head everytime I open it. It looks like some type of shock or something but I have nothing there and my head hurts.

Any insight anyone, both myself and my head would appreciate it!

The 1964 Barracudas used a kind of ratchet mechanism mounted on the right side and the 65s used a spring loaded tube mounted on the left side.

I have a 65 and the correct tube, should there be a bracket on that left side qtr to mount it??? a p o yrs back had replaced that qtr after n accident. thanks
