Trying to find out my compression

Hey just wondering guys is there anyway to know your compresison without doing al kinds of machine work? I was told you can do it with just a compression tester. If so can someone explain to me the formula for doing it.

Have you tried one of the compression calculators? If you know the engine internals it will get you close. Here is just a sample. There are many more.
