TTI exhaust early A-body instillation ?

Getting ready to install my new TTI duel system on my 65 dart and noticed they say you have to remove the RH parking break cable bracket from the flore board. But that is all they say to do. Has any one crossed this bridge before? Do you have the remove the hole parking break system? Kinda looks like you would or the cable would just be hanging there, or rubbing on the exhaust. Thanks for any ideas!!
 
I have yet to install my e-brake after my header and exhaust install... The one bracket does have to go - but I dont know if you can or cannot operate the system without it.

trust me - the e-brake is the least of your worries...lol
 
get ready for some fun! Pull that steering column, the t-bars, and get ready to shim the mounts! But once there in, they work awesome and look great.

Well I cheated for now. LOL I just got the system that bolts to the stock manifolds. So should be a little easer.

Just installed the TTI manifold-back kit on my 65 signet convertible a month ago. I cut the bracket off on the passenger side and reinstalled the cables after i was done with the exhaust. Parking brake works but i haven't tightened it enough. It's resting on the exhaust pipe too; no noticeable noise.

Some tips/comments:
1. Had major problems installing the rear hangers. I ended up modifying the ones they sent.
2. You'll also need to cut the main pipe down (after the y-pipe) to fit the mufflers properly. Believe they state that in the directions
3. Had to raise the motor on the passenger side to get the passenger side pipe installed.
4. Had almost no room to install the oil filter on the 90 deg adapter once the pipe was installed. The filter is very close to the frame rail. Next time i change the filter i'll cut the rail and reinforce to provide a little more room to thread the filter on.
5. I have major drone noise at cruise speed which is driving me nuts. My understanding is that it's a resonance in the exhaust system. There are various ways to tackle it but i haven't started that yet. Let me know how yours sounds once you get it running!

Thanks for the tips! Mine may sound a little different, as I bought the Summit rip off flowmasters instead of using there mufflers. I also got a set of cut outs I am going to try to add. Will let you know how it turns out!
 
Well I have the LH head pipe on no problem. But the RH one is a total no go. I have no problem with the oil filter, but it hits the torsion bar really bad. I have the engine jacked up about 3/4 of an inch to clear it. Which will not work as that putts the transmission up against the hump. Looks like I will have to dent the heck out of the pipe. I half wonder if they made this one wrong. The talk about having to have the small bolt for the oil adapter to clear the pipe. But my pipe has a good .5in clearance to it. If you try to role the pipe that way to get more clearance for the torsion bar, it looses it's seal on the manifold. I am a little stumped?

But on a good note;
By jacking the engine up I found my LH mount has separated! Oh boy LOL more fun! Just glad I caught it.
 
you might need new mounts ( LOL!!) or shim the new ones to get the engine where they want it.

have you measured the motor and in relation to where it is supposed to be?

Agree that the mount you have may be incorrect. And are you sure you have the correct early-a passenger manifold? TTI provides the part number that it needs to be.

Manifold casting numbers are exactly what TTI calls for, and what came on the car. I am thinking about making solid mounts for the car. And shimming them to get it right were I want it. Thanks
 
I wonder if the steel mount on my RH side is incorect? It has three bolt holes, but only 2 line up with two on the block? Two bolts seems a little light to me? There are three on the LH side.
 
Here is what I have found. I think the RH mount was not sitting were it should do to it only having two bolts. This is what I posted on the early A-body section

(I think I may have found my problem. Right mounts, wrong engine. Looks like the 273 had the twin ears (two bolt holes) on the back on the RH side, and the 318 has the twin holes on the front on the RH side. Correct?? Curious what others have done about this? I am thinking about welding a piece on to the bracket to line up with that hole. Any ideas?? Thanks!!)

Even though i have a 318 in my 65 right now, i must have bought 273 mounts for it so i don't have the problem you're describing. good luck
 
Wanted to update everyone on the TTI instillation. It is on and done!

First I found the drivers side mount was popped. Totally separated. And some one bolted it together. Relay nice. Not.

So I broke down and got a Schumacher poly lock mount kit. $280 later (ouch) The engine is setting right were it should.

Now to the exhaust.
LH head pipe went on no problem. RH was another mater. Even with the engine sitting were it should I had to dent the pipe a little so it would not touch. No biggy. The problem came when I went to bolt it up the the manifold. As I was snugging up the bolts the floating flange on the pipe popped over the flare. Some thing was not made right. Ether the hole in the flange was to big, or the pipe flare was to small. So I got it back on and after 3 or 4 times on and off I ended up welding the flange to the pipe. Problem solved. Not that big of deal but for $600 it should not have happened.

The rest was pretty easy. Except for figuring out were to put the hanger brackets.

Oh and I did not use there 50lb muffler hanger brackets. While they are very nice I do not intend to hang the car upside down by the exhaust. So if any one needs a set I have them! I hung them on the wall and used two universal strap hangers. No need for that extra weight on a race car.

I also opted to get my own mufflers. I got the Summit brand flow master rip offs. And boy do they sound great! Less than half the $ of flow masters, and made twice as good!

Only thing left is to take it to a muffler shop and get my cut outs welded in.

Over all I am very happy with the results. Car sounds great, and really made a deference in performance.
