I finally decided to go with the TTI headers. Now all have to decide on is to get the shorty or the long tube headers. Ive hears so many good & bad points on both headers. Cant make up my mind. I have a 67 barracuda 360/408 factory cast iron heads. Manual steering. 904 trany Stock front suspension What do you guy and gals think ?
When I called tti for shortys they were backordered. The man said “why shorties”? Hello! A-body. He said long tubes would slide right in from the bottom. He was right!
Long tube.
‘67 Cuda, manual brakes and steering below.
Mini starter slips in and out without touching a bolt on the header. The slip fit was an initial PIA, but now that I have done it, it was really a no brainer. It is tight and a PIA to install, just get it up, slide the tube into the tube, rubber mallet tap it in, twist the tube & flange to the head, presto.
TTI large tube race 1 7/8 with 3 inch exhaust out the back . Note the steel mounts so the don't knock around with a large cam. The pipes are sitting next to the exhaust that came off the car. It had 70 manifolds. This exhaust was a perfect fit . Better then any I ever installed on any customers car. He paid the price but got what he paid for. I would recomend their long tube . this was a pretty radical motor they make a smaller tube which I would recommend with power steering. We changed this car to manual steering for the larger exhaust. The smaller Tuff wheel is out of the question now.
We have a cuda getting done he has 1 5/8 tubes with power steering. They are hooker super comps. Tight fit and have to be tapped in at places. TTI is the best choice no matter what header style you choose. You get what you pay for. I added some pics for reference. He opted for the H-pipe as we recommend . It comes apart and leaves room for a driveshaft loop. also provides adjustable width for installation. Deck height and heads change the header location a tad which is noticeable . Just a thought. Also better for large cam High RPM motors. Less bends.
If you want the most out of you engine performance, long tubes. If your car has a column shift the shorty's are tricky and require extra parts for the exhaust to clear. There is a sticky about the shorty's install from a few years back if you want to look at it. I've installed over 20 sets of the TTI long tubes on A-B-E cars over the years with every engine combo. I wanted to try the shorty's. The car was a 273 Valiant with a up grade cam and 4bbl intake. It ran good and sounded great. I think the torque would have been better with the long tubes.
