How does a wide band O2 system work? I have no experience or knowledge of them, would having one be a good idea for fine tuning?

Many years ago Innovate had a forum where users from around the world would discuss tuning with their products. It is no longer running but some one was kind enough to document the 2 main posters who were kind enough to share their invaluable info and experience on how they tuned engines. If you go through the archives you will learn more than you could ever here asking questions. The topic on O2's is addressed many times with in the archives:

read-only

Good Luck.

Innovative and other such systems:

Weld the 02 bung over the hole you out in the exhaust pipe and run the wires inside the car. Connect accordingly to the instructions and fire it up!

Once it reads the AF ratio, try for the idle/driving tune to be as close to 14.7-1 as possible. The lower the numbers the richer it is. Higher the numbers the leaner it will be. Lean-ish on cruise is OK. You want to be rich on a WOT (Wide Open Throttle)

Get your tuning kit out. The 02 sensor will speed things up a lot. The race track will tell you what the car likes at WOT.

They're just another tuning tool. The spark plugs tell the ultimate story though.

Keep in mind 14.7 applies to 100% gas. In your fuel has any ethanol in it, stoich will be lower. I think the E15 piss that our pumps have is at 14.1.

I thought you could still access the Innovate forum pages. Maybe not. That damn tapatalk thing is a giant PITA.

And that’s too bad because there was a TON of great information there.

I have been riding Tuner’s *** for several years to write a book. He doesn’t think anyone would read it.

I told him was wrong. And a dumb *** for thinking that.
