I really thought by now that they would be making these for our early A's. I guess not? Well, mines being a pain in the butt. The passenger side works, but the rear driverside doesn't and both brake lights don't work now. Wow, what a deal. Started checking wires and went back to the turn signal switch plug on column. My brake wire is hot to the turn signal switch and the wire coming from the turn signal switch to the ds rear doesn't have crap.

Clean all the contacts in the connector, and the switch in the column, then make sure your lights are grounded.

If you want to replace it I was reading on here somewhere that SlantsixDan had found a company to make some runs of the turn signal switch

you might want to pm him and see if he still has any or when/if he's going to get some more in
Kurt (dang I gotta get 2 for myself too)

I bought 2 when he first offered them and they are sweet!

Well I got a new one for Slantsixdan and got it installed today. My horn wants to go off now when I turn the wheel, which it wasn't doing that before. Still playing with that deal, but as far as the originally problems they are gone.

The copper tag that the horn button wire is soldered to on the steering wheel itself is probably bent and hitting ground somewhere in the rotation of the steering wheel.

I'm running an aftermarket wheel also. I remembered that I was having the problem with my old steering wheel with the old turn signal unit and my brother told me that sometimes that little brass wheel doesn't turn freely and will cause that so I used a little WD40 and got it loosened up some and it cured the old one, but the newer one took almost 90% of the problem a way and seems to get better the more I turn the wheel back and forth. I'll keep playing with it.

Yeah, those aftermarket wheels need to have the proper adaptor or they will tear up a turn signal switch.

I think a 69 Dart turn signal switch will work in an early A, and those are still available (think). I suspect this because I had a 69 Dart and a 65 Chrysler. I had a new switch for the Dart (probably via Paddock) and used it in my Chrysler. I just had to file a little plastic off the base. I later found the correct cancel cam for my Chrysler so I have the new 69 one out. When I recently worked on my 65 Dart column I compared the switches and recall that the 69 one should work.

A few other things to consider:

My 65 Chrysler is different in that it doesn't have wires on the cancel cam. I think because it has so many rear bulbs that it they didn't have to share a filament for brake and turn signal. When I had the 69 switch in, I didn't use those wires. I kind of remember that the switch in my 65 Dart does have wires on cancel cam. Even though it has 3 rear bulbs on each side, I recall it still shares a filament for brake/turn. The bulbs in the trunk are just extra running lights. I was just repairing that wiring last night, so will check. Look up my prior post on the steering column and the photos may show the switch. The 65 Chrysler switch looks more robust and is still working fine, the plastic tabs just broke off the cam, and if my wife drives a car every control must be perfect.

69 switches use the same connector type (don't know the name, and you won't find those new today). It is easy to release the pins from the housing with a small screwdriver. Don't cut the wires. Some idiot did that on that my 65 Dart and reconnected with butt crimps. I fixed that mess. I looked at the connector for a ~73 Dart in the junkyard and it is totally different.
