HI everyone. Greetings from central Washington State. I have a 73 Duster and am having trouble fixing this issue. I replaced the turn signal switch even though the old one did not look broken. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. I see I can buy the Horn Contact set from classic industries that includes the spring that is supposed to do the cancellation. I wondering if those wear down over time and don't make contact with the switch? Also wondering if there is a specific place they are supposed to orient on the steering wheel to function properly? All ideas are welcome!
Thanks!

I had the same problem, added little weld to the metal tab that cancels the signal. Just don’t add to much or it will clip the horn contact with the tiny wheel on it.

Take a look at the back side of the steering wheel hub- there should be a heavy circular ring with a 90* finger pointed straight out. This finger is what trips the cancelling switch. If it is missing or incorrectly indexed the signals will not self-cancel.

As the wheel spins to return to center, that finger contacts one of these two parts of the signal switch, tripping it off.

So if the finger is missing or clocked way off, it will not cancel.
It is a beeotch to move (just held in place by spring tension), but I have seen it missing.

Thanks for the great info. I'll pull the wheel again and check this out. I have a question regarding the proper alignment. Since the wheel only goes on one way due to the splines, it appears from your pics that I want the ring/finger to be in the position of nine o'clock when the wheel is turned over and mated to the column. Is that correct?

Not quite 9:00, closer to 8-8:30... it should be as close to centered between the fingers of the switch as possible. (Switch is offset just below the 9:00 position)

I just had this problem, after replacing the turn signal switch on my 72 Duster, but only when canceling the right turn signal. Left worked just fine. I had some 1/8” rubber tube and a 1/4” piece on the ring/finger did the trick. We shall see how long it lasts. Great guidance to point me in the right direction (pun intended).
