Hey Ya'll I got to playing around with the idea of how to make some cragar wheels I bought on a 63 valiant look a lil' bit better and I'll try to post the pics of the progress and hopefully it will help someone out.start off by taking and cleaning as much of the wheel as you can with sos pad(make sure to use a new one with plenty of soap still on it so you dont scratch the chrome)then take a soft car wash brush and clean away the residue.then dry the wheel.then use a die grinder with a wire wheel(about an inch around, the cup type)to clean in between the spokes as best as you can and also around the rim area that usually pits a lil bit. Then break out the fine line tape and mask around the rim and then mask of the spokes then take regular masking tape to the rest of it.you can paint them argent if you want but I used sem trim paint to see how it would look.you be the judge of the results I'm quite happy with them now:cheers:ps the part of the rim near the valve stem that also gets pitted you can wire wheel it also and then brush on a lil chrome paint to hide the discoloration of the pits.I like the results

I am no Cragar fan, I'll admit it. But, I have to agree you got some very nice results from your efforts.

Thats a pretty cool idea, I'm not a big fan of Cragars either but I've gotta say those look pretty good with the background blacked out like that, kinda reminds me of the torque thrust look, hell looks better than the original Cragars:cheers:

That looks outstanding! What a great lo-buck trick! Can we see a shot of the finished set on the car?

P.S. I have always used 0000 steel wool to clean rust off my chrome wheels. works very well and will not scratch the chrome.

Another good "How-To" post! Nice results you got.... Thanks for taking the time to shoot the in-progress pictures!

Now how about some more pictures of that wagon? :-D

congrats! Looks great & you saved them from the scrap heap.

How can you guys not like cragar mags!!!?

Sorry guys I'm a cragar fan and a nice job it was taking uglyness out of these.

Wonder if I can still find those old rusty Cragars I threw in the local dump 10 years ago? Great job and thanks for the in-progress pics.

Well I kinda took the idea from my dad who has a 67 cuda fastback,he loves magnum wheels and try to find those in small bolt circle,he's in his 70's and painted his front cragars kinda crudely.but the way he did it is awesome, they look a lot like magnums now,he's wanting me to redo them his way for him now that he's seen mine so I will post some pic's of his cuda and his 56 belvedere for you guys. i'll do some before during and after shots for Y'All and any lo buck tip's I can to help out
