I have used a C-clamp to replace U-joints, but it has been a while.
Any tips you guys can offer would be appreciated. I have a bench vise that I was going to rest the ears of the driveshaft on to remove them by pounding them out. I don't own a press.

One place I worked, we had a HUGE old vise, we used to open it up, rest the exposed U joint branch (rear) on the edges of the vise opening, and smack the yoke close to the joint, which drives out the cap, then turn 180 and do the same

THIS IS misuse of a vise, AND it's possible is some cases to bend the yoke slightly.

I STILL 'misuse' an old vise, but I no longer smack the yoke, but rather, use a piece of pipe and hammer over the top of the cap.

On the front one, of course, you have to rest the other yoke ears until you get "half of it" apart.

I haven't used a press with U joints in about 50 years.

If your vise will open wide enough, you can use two sockets and use the vise as a press by closing it. Much better that beating em out.
