I called comp cams and talked to the tech guys there and asked if my 995 springs would be okay with the new cam (after I get them checked for sure) 1 guys tells me yea they will be fine just make sure of the height....talked with another guy before when I called about the cam specs and was told no they want work you must have this 986 and this new ret. and locks to get 50 more spring height to work...now I m lost will they work or not......I used them on my 306 555/555 for a few runs and changed to new springs (had the heads worked valve job and checked) so what do you all think...I really dont want to get new springs locks and ret right now ..just want to use what I have now if possible....

I know this isn't an answer to your question but my experience with the tech people at comp cams has not been good. If you call 5 times and ask the same question, in the exact same words, you will get 5 different answers from 5 different people. I think some are pushing for a sale (don't know if the get commission or not), and some don't have the foggiest idea what a MOPAR is.

so you already have the 740 retainers but the tech guy said they wouldn't work with the new cam that lifts....??

A minimum of .050 Between each coil is needed, take one of you're springs and have it checked at a machine shop at the new cams lift, if solid subtract the lash.
Then check required spring pressure @seat, mid, full lift/or @.550 lift.

my thing is this the spring he rec. me get is the same spring or 1 of the springs that they rec. for the 306 555/555 cam that I have...986-16 works for 306 555/555 and the 282 520/540 just looked and the ret. the same and the locks are the same.....

old cam 306s
260@50
555/555 lift
4000to7000
110 lobe center angle
106 intake centerline

new cam xs282s
244/252@50
520/540 lift
2500to6500
110 lobe center angle
106 intake centerline
