Is any one using a vented gas cap on thier olders cars. i have heard of people using them but have yet to see one or find what cap they are using. I have a 74 duster and id like get rid of the charcole canister and that extra vent line.

I have had a hard time finding a cap that work's at all. Only one I could get
was at autozone. It is a vented and keyed one that flops around. I dont know where to get a correct one at but it should work as long as it is vented.
If you find one that looks good let me know.

i made my own. A couple of stragetically placed 3/16" holes and voila, a vented cap. I don't think I'd do it if I was autocrossing or something, but for straight line cars, I'm ok with it.

Reviving an old topic here....
I'm in the same boat as zakimodo was.
Is there any reason why an off the shelf NAPA/Autozone vented cap would be a bad idea?

Thanks!

None of these cars use nor SHOULD they use vented caps. A vented cap is going to allow fuel to splash all over your fender

If I "had one of these" and wanted to get rig of all the carbon can stuff I would take the time to pull the filler pipe out and weld / braze / silver braze a fitting into the upper end of the filler, and duplicate the older 69/ earlier vent.

If the original carbon can vent line coming up front from the tank is there, is open, and in good shape, you can just bring it up high so it won't siphon and it will act as a vent. Might be good to plumb it into the air filter bonnet to reduce the chance of fumes (smell)
