Would be great if we had a fendertag decoder here. In my opinion why should be leave this site for that info?
Maybe give out free gold membership to the maker/designer?
The amount of experience and info here is staggering. May as well streamline and utilize it.
People leave frequently for #'s research of one form or another which seems foolish to me. Just my opinion.

There's a reason 'good' decoders don't already exist.

What was coded, when it was coded and even where it was coded changes year to year, plant to plant and even within the model year. An accurate decoders would have to be done for every plant for every year.

It's is almost impossible to account for tag nuances via an online decoder that lacks if/then as well as and/or logical functions as well as intelligent experience.

What may be correct for an 'early' car may be incorrect for a 'late' car. Online decoders do not account for the SPD time function of coding.

What applies at one plant may not apply at another plant. On line decoders need to be able to account for this and don't. Different plants have different layouts.

Most decoders are designed to simply return info already listed in the data base. If you have Garbage in you get garbage out. Weird coding quirks exist that would be difficult for a non-intelegent entity to determine, decode and explain.

Online decoders can't spot bad/fake tags

So while more cumbersome and time consuming, personal decodes are still the most complete and accurate.

I know it would be a big undertaking, but there are some out there. Dodgecharger.org had a great one for 67, as they are unique, but arent they all? Lol
Anyway that site no longer has it and the format has changed on the site itself.

Any truly accurate and worthwhile decoder would require someone with detailed knowledge and experience in a particular plant for a particular year and the ability to write code for a decoder.

I am shopping for a new Mopar and I will be needing a decoder.

Huge - and the second I do it here, FBBO is gonna want one too.... Its not just about the work, but finding all the info...

AND FCBO
AND FEBO
AND FMJBO

and..and..and.

Accurately covering all years and codes would be a huge undertaking. That's why people don't do it and they aren't available. Plus, posting accurate info helps bad tag makes make better fakes. Keep 'em stupid so we can spot the bogus tags.

I have the books from 62-80 and let me tell you, it's a goat screw figuring it out. Ma Mopar didn't do us any favors. VIN's are fairly simple. Fender tags and build sheets are quite difficult in places.

Yes... and some people spend an inordinate amount of their lives continuing to research all the nuances and document 'how things were done' with tags and BS.

GG's books are still the definitive source in the hobby to start decoding, yet even they are incomplete or not always accurate.

What's to lose? See if someone here(or a couple members) is willing to take it on.
Oh Joe at Dodgecharger.org fixed his.

Online decoders lack the necessary if/then as well as either/or logic to prevent errors. They are in = out decoders i.e. pre programmed to respond to an input whether that output is logical or not (see below for engine and transmission as well as SPD)

Make and model specific decoders such as the Charger decoders can be useful IF the make and model are only produced at one plant. Yet, if they are valid for only one make or model, they only serve only a narrow purpose. The Charger decoder may or may not be valid for A, C or other B bodies therefore limited in application. Meaning, it may not be useful to an owner of a Satellite produced at Lynch Road.

Online decoders struggle with the differences in coding between various plants.
