hi just looking for some opinions? i am getting my 67 notch backl painted in january and it has vinyl top thats is pretty good shape should i leave it with vinyl top or not???????????????????

IMO I have never really cared for them. They also tend to hold moisture in and rot the roof of the car. But that is JMO.

To me the vinyl top on a car has alot to do with what color the car is.

I know that on my Runner it had the padding under the gattor top and I just got done putting a new/used solid roof on it but I will put a new vinyl top on with out the padding.

So to me its two things

Main one is it's your car
second like said above the color.

vinyl top goes with color of the car and top is in good shape not really faded. the car is staying same color when it gets painted in january black and sublime green and vinyl top is black . just the thing is how much rust is really under the top???????

The last one that I pulled off you would have never thought it but it had almost rotted the entire roof. Couldn't tell by the top it too was in almost perfect condition. Even if you do want to put on on I would pull it off and reprime and paint under the top before reinstalling it. just my .02

I agree that the color of the car really makes a difference. I have a triple black 72 Swinger and the vinyl top really sets if off. We older guys grew up in a time when vinyl tops were pretty common, so maybe the younger guys don't care form them. (Although they do have kind of an "old school" look to them. The guy who replaced mine said he has been doing it for close to 30 years, and he used to do 3 a day. Now he says he averages about 3 per month. One thin for sure, it's a hellva lot easier to Armor All a vinyl top then it is to wax a painted one.
