I have a 1970 340 Duster with the Rallye instrument panel. Voltage limiter is bad -- at least I think so...the fuel, temp gauges don't read correctly. The fuel gauge will read empty when I have 1/2 full tank. I've checked and replaced the sending unit and the resistance now is per spec. Also, the temp gauge bearly reaches the operating range when the engine is comfortably warm. If indeed it is the voltage limiter -- where can I get one? Does anyone have one for sale? Hep, hep...the "cruise" season is getting close!!!

If your rallye dash is like the one in my 68 Barracuda the voltage limiter is located inside the fuel gauge. I removed mine altogether and bought a microchip, heatsink, and resistor and for less than $5.00 cured that problem. There are some places out there that can repair the voltage limiters but the microchip supplies a constant 5 volts and eliminates the bi-metal switch which gives you the erratic gauge readings. If you can, start by getting under the dash and check to see that you have 12 volts coming into the fuel gauge. If you do, then check to see if you have an average of 5 volts going to the pin on the gas gauge that feeds the temp and oil pressure gauges. If you don`t then it probably is your voltage limiter. There`s a thread in this forum, back in December that I started for temp/oil pressure gauge not working. There`s a lot of info on that thread that can help you (if it is the voltage limiter), including an article in Mopar Muscle that`ll give you an understanding of the electricity flow through the printed circuit.
