I have a 65 Cuda that has the original 273 and floor(and cable) shifted 904. The trans is shot. Wont shift, leaks, exc.

I'm looking to replace the trans soon and would like some suggestions about tranny choices. The issue that I'm having is that most rebuilt trans' are for 66-up cars. What would I have to do to convert my current setup to make it compatible with my stock floor shifter?

Any info or comments would be great!

Since your car has a floor shift, any later model trans would work. Does your current trans have the ball and trunnion rear flange, or does it have the slip yoke for a u-joint. If it has the B&T, you will need to have another driveshaft made to rid yourself of the B&T setup. Other than that, any 904 would be a bolt in and go. I would steer away from the later 70's lockup style though!! Hope this helps, Geof

Thanks for the info. The car does have the B&T setup, so I would have to get a new driveshaft. If that's the only issue that I'll have, then it sounds like it should be a snap!
