Came to the conclusion that the shift rods and brackets that I got with my tranny are for an OD tranny. PM me if you can help!

The shift rods for the standard and OD 4 speed are the same. Only difference is one shift lever flips upside down on the OD.

I have a very nice set of correct factory original HURST 4-speed shifter rods i just got in here. They are in very good used condition. All the swivels move freely and they are not bent, welded, rusty or pitted. I even have an original double swivel for the rev rod if you are going to be using the 70 reverse lock-out, interlock key release system. PM me if interested

They sure don't look the same according to the pictures on Brewers. Mine appear to be from a mid 70's OD tranny.
 
I don't know what to tell you. I have both kinds out in the shop with the same linkage on each one and they work fine. Keep in mind different shifters may also have a bearing on it. Brewers may well be right that they are different, they know their stuff, BUT the same linkage will fit and WORK for both.
