I had a fun day today....

I went down to Erie, Speedway and Elliot's auto wrecking.

I was looking for wheels. Found a bunch at speedway but they might have been 13", I forgot my tape measure. I had no cash, so I headed up to Elliot's.

They did not have a single wheel, but the dart in the photo had a door I have been eyeballing for 5 years, I asked the owner if he would take 75 and he said yes. Previous years he wanted much more.

So I grabbed my tools and went about pulling the door. When I went to pay that's when the fun started....

I got the worst case of low blood sugar of my life.

I sat down on their floor and passed out.

Then I threw up in a plastic bag in their office.

The young man there was so nice to me, both his parents are diabetics so he knew what to do for me. He got me some sugar and a water.

I sat there for another 10-20 minutes then figured I had better try to get home. 30 minute drive.

I got to the car and started driving.
I kept telling myself just get to the next off ramp, next off ramp.

I got 20 minutes up the interstate and all of a sudden "I better get off the road"

I got to the top of the offramp....

Let the puking begin! The drivers window was open but I couldn't lean out enough so there was puke outside the car, puke inside the car, puke in my pocket, on my phone, in my eyeglass case.

It must have been a sight, I can see the sympathetic vomiters tossing cookies in their cars!

I pulled around to a gas station and sat there for another 20 minutes or so then drove home.

Got home, some orange juice and some protein, a little sleep, and I'm ready to go back to the wrecking yards.

The worst part is I did not get to Eire Auto wrecking, or back to speedway to get the one wheel that I had found loose.

How's your day going!

These guys kept me company while pulling the door.

I discovered that when pulling a door by yourself it is very convenient to have a gas cylinder just the right height just laying there.

Some wrecking yards need a good spraying with an herbicide

Glad you're ok. Sounds like a hell of an ordeal.

I suspect my soda at breakfast was not diet it tasted a bit odd but diet Dr. Pepper tastes so much like non diet it's hard to tell.

I have experienced low blood sugar in the past after eating too much sugar and then doing physical exertion, but this was by far the worst.

Maybe it's time for a Dr. visit.

Damn Dude! I'm glad You made it Home Safe! I'm Hypoglycemic, and it gets so bad I start to get panic attacks or something. Shaking, light headed, nauseated, and Psycho. Once it starts to come on, I get something Fast! Drop everything, and go! If meals are on time, and the right foods, it's usually ok... I also usually keep some of those 4 mg sugar tablets they sell at the pharmacy in the GlvBox. I'll chew 1 or 2 of those in a pending flake out

Might be. Kitty and I have been fortunate to fight off diabetes by cutting back on sugar. We're not even on metformin anymore. It's work, but doable.

You think? You sound like my son who is also a Type 1 diabetic. Low blood sugar episodes aren't good
I and several of his friends have had to come to his aid over the years because he went low

WHAT A DAY!
I envy you for still having yards like that. The metal crusher man has pretty much cleaned out the old yards in Texas.

Most of the cars are very picked over.

Erie has 3-4, 67 to 69 darts, a number of Valiants and a smattering of baracudas of the same vintage.

Elliot's has 4 or 5 early Barracudas and the one Dart.

Speedway has mostly C and B and E bodies with a smatering of 70 to 76 A bodies.

They have a real GTS hood but the outer skin is loose from the inner structure and a bit rusted.

Dang man, that's rough! Keep that blood sugar where it needs to be, glad you're okay.

Hope your feeling better Dana.
I was actually over that way yesterday looking at some E body convertibles for a friend. Did you get into Eire wrecking yard? I tried a few years ago and they wouldn't sell anything. Must be 10,000 old cars in there. I've bought a lot from Speedway but it has been a while. I also bought a 72 Charger from Elliot's years ago then his prices went way up. I almost bought that Dart about 10 years ago.

I got there 15 minutes before they opened, so I went to Speedway, walked / macheted my way through the Mopar section, looking for 5x4 bolt pattern wheels.
Found a few on cars and one off car. They only take cash, (didn't think about that and was cashless) I might go back next weekend.

Glad yer better. Not the smartest idea driving while having an episode tho.
Diabetics on both sides of my family. And had to bail Dad out once with low bs. Diet pops while not having sugar, they can still trick your body into thinking it is sugar and you still get the -ve's associated with it. Metformin was fine for me but I kept forgetting to take my nighttime dose, so doc switched me to Glumetza, same stuff just time released.
Scrounging junk yards is becoming a thing of the past unfortunately. Looked like a fun day other than the episodes.
Be well.
Oh people die from lows, not highs, so be careful. I've watched videos of people with low bs, it's similar to being drunk. Scary ****.

This diabetes is no joke and driving while he knew he was low or recovering from being low is just plain dangerous.... My son had some demons he dealt with and wasn't taking care of himself for a long time
I could write pages of what I went through with him but going low is not a joking matter
I had police, EMT's called on him more than once....He has become violent a few times when he was low
I found him unconscious and unresponsive
When he came around he couldn't recall a thing he did or said while low
But one thing the OP might want to consider. Once to make it short, I had to go to his apartment because we couldnt reach him. I found him unconscious laying on the floor, for a second I thought he was dead......I could not revive him so I called 911
When they got him conscious what happened was his pump malfunctioned and something else I dont recall
All he remembers is getting off the subway late at night, stoping at a all night store and getting a bite to eat.....thats it, blank after that until we got him to come around
Another time on a Holliday weekend I was suppose to meet him and he was a no show
I got into his apt and got him up, he wasnt coherent and started yelling at me and running around like a crazy person.....I called 911 and EMS came....We pinned him to the bed and tried to get sugar gel into his mouth, he fought and fought, yelling screaming cursing.
He tried to bite the EMS guy and as a subdued him he broke free and slapped me full swing hit me hard in the ear....had he hit me with a closed fist in the jaw he could have knocked me out and broke my jaw
I than grabbed him pulled him off the bed and slammed him into the carry chair and we strapped him in
He was in his underwear still
I was shaking my heart pounding my ear ringing and hurt like hell
I told EMS and cops take him to psychiatric ward and admit him
I was near tears between my son and seeing him like this, dealing with my wifes cancer I was at my limit
Half hour later the EMS lady comes up and tells me he is ok, alert and making sense. She can't admit him to hospital
I get him some clothes and take him up to his apt,,, I go get him some food and juice....He is ok mentally but feels sick really sick
But heres the scary part and keep this always in mind.....he had absolutely zero recollection of what happened.....Nothing no memory at all
Still another time he was low, he sees me and asks me what am I doing here, how did I get there, to where he was.....I was like what the F is up with you,,,,I drove here
Two weeks earlier he was in CA on business......He thought he was still at the hotel in CA and I came out there to see him
How many more stories would anyone want as I have many more, these are but a few
Now by the grace of Jesus he is doing so much better, he has taken control and responsibility for managing his type 1 diabetes
take care of your self this is no joking matter
