I've got a 1979 360, and the heads have air ports. The castings are '596s. Anyone know about these?
Thanks, Mike

With the exception of the air injection ports they are the same as any other 340/360 heads. They will have 1.88" intake valves.

Thanks, Dave! Do you know if they are these off of this engine? I'm just wondering the other stuff inside this 360, if the heads are of another vintage.

I think that would be the correct casting number for that year 360. I have the same heads on my motor but no smog holes in them.

They are the same basic head as the 915 "J" casting with the exception of the air injector ports. Tap some threads, put in some sealer and 1/4" pipe plugs, and you have a set of "J" heads. :)

Yes, what everyone is saying. Good castings, plug the air holes and...use'em. Good luck, Terry.

If they have a little hole below the exhaust port, that is air injection, and there will be a hump in the bottom of your exhaust port as a result of this feature. I also have this casting. And, I'm gonna make em flow!!

Be sure to grind out the hump in the port floor. That is for heads with the air injection holes. You can completely remove it, right down to the floor level..BUT no further. Good luck, Terry.

My 360 is fresh, and already assembled. Also, it's got a small cam. I'm thinking of just running it.
Thanks for the info.

I was checking out a set of those 596 heads also and did a casting search on autohobbydigest and they indicated these heads were for a 318 engine with a (cast-in 360) indicated. Do they have 318 or 360 sized ports? Mike
