Hi All: My 1974 Gold Duster has the C73 Space Duster option, which includes the folding rear seat and trunk dress-up. The prior owner of my car told me that he used to sleep in the back when he was working in the field maintaining power lines. The rear seat folded down, and he lowered the security panel to provide a six foot long space to spread out his sleeping bag at night. How about you? What did you do with your Space Duster? Use it as a mini camper? Let the kids play back there during road trips? Haul a lot of long stuff in it? Please share your stories. Thanks!

I have never seen that option but that is a really cool one. And that is probably the cleanest example still available!! Very nice car man!

I also have a 74 duster with the C73 option and I'm fixin to use it as a mini camper someday soon on a long distance road trip......

Thanks dartfreak. I started out with a pretty clean unrestored original, so I had a lot to work with. Replacing all of the carpet was a real ordeal, for a number of reasons. If you want more detailed info on the resto of this part of my car, look up "Bob's Component Restoration, Part 9: The Space Duster Pak" on this site.

Both of my Duster's have the fold down back seat. I wished neither had it. I use it for nothing, and they are heavier than a normal back seat. :(

I met a girl back in 78 or 79 at a party in the woods, It was at a quarry and everybody was swimming in the day but that night was when we got together and drove her duster out in the woods, we got naked in the duster but f-ed up and left the sunroof open. A mosquito found us and called all his friends and within 30 seconds the car was full of flesh eating mosquito's and we had to bail out and run. It was a bad night for a teenager.

If this was a FB cuda question, the stories would be endless.
Yeah, I can tell stories about a teen aged kid whose first car was a 67 FB cuda back in the day. Some involve drive-in movies and maybe best told in the blue forum. Soundtrack might be Night Moves or Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
I first slept in the car at the 1970 U.S. Nationals in Indy. Over the years I've slept in FB cudas many times at car shows and races including driving the 68 from CA to Ohio. One of my MO's is parking, putting a car cover on, and crawling inside to ZZZ. Stay tuned as I plan on taking the 68 on a round the country trip after the engine swap is done. I have a nickname for the car which may appear as I document the trip on FABO.

Thanks, Kosmic. Can't wait to read your story!

My 75 has this option. I used to sleep in it between shifts of guard duty at Ft Hood back in the early 80s just like the guy in the first post. It’s a great feature.
