What finish did dual snorkel scoops come with?

I started a thread about re-finishing my scoop but apparently people thought I was asking their permission to paint it? So hopefully this is a more specific question:

I am interested in the original finish and knowing if it can be restored to a like new condition. Right now it looks ok but its a little scuffed. I don't know much about what it's made out of or how it was finished originally (as cast?)
