What Is The Best Mini Starter?

I'm looking for the best recommended mini starter. One that fits the best and gives the most clearance. Also is an adjustable one a good option? Thanks for the help.
 
I've got a Mopar performance mini starter for my bb valiant. Fits very well,with more than enough power
 
I just get them for a '94 Dakota. Cranks well, and only about 57.00 bucks over the counter.....
 
Mopar mini starter, excellent part!
 
I've got 1 off a old truck . Been on my old duster small block race car now on my chassis car big block alky injection been around about 10years never a problem cost about 30 bucks at local salvage yard.
 
How easy are they to rebuild?
Normal wear parts like clutch, contacts, and brushes are readily available?
How are they at -15 degrees F?
 
Is there any difference between the Mopar Performance mini starter and the stock truck mini starters??? Or are they the same????
 
Is there a thread on wiring a mini starter up? Sorry I cant search , Im at work and not all forum functions work properly. But say going from a gear reduction starter to a mini, what is the wiring schematic?
 
Do they have brush keepers to hold the brushes back for reassembly, like the older designs?

they wire the same as a starter from 1970
 
I've used the 440 Source starters for the past three project. Just put one on my 65 Chrysler. So far, so good.....

If someone knows where to get parts for these, I'd like to hear. NAPA knows nothing. Last I heard, they were pretending to be an "auto parts store." I've got two that both have slipping clutches.

NAPA is about as good as you can get, and if THEY can't get service parts, it probably means they are not serviceable, but throw-away.
When the clutches begin to slip in these, is it a "maybe you'll start if you keep clicking",
or is it all over for the day and call for a ride?

I've lost a LOT of faith in NAPA. Nowadays they sell much of the same chineseoated crap that O'Reallys? sells.

You have to understand that my Dad worked a large part of his life in auto parts, lot of it NAPA. I myself sold auto parts for some 15-17 years in the 70's and eighties. "Back then" and in this part of the country, getting parts for old "rigs" was just part of the deal. Even in the eighties "it was no big deal" to rustle up parts for some old G.I. rig some logger was using as a jammer, etc.

This entire "deal" of "corporate" parts stores has not been good for customers, not at all.
 
Get one from a salvage yard like most of us do, mine has been going fine for 9 years and never even said boo, never had it rebuilt for any reason...if it aint broken don't fix it.
 
all that stuff is good but if your running a roller cam and high compression will the cheap stuff work?
 
I agree. Go to the parts store and get a stock unit from a Dakota. I have a 500" B block with 13.5:1 compression. No issues. Cheap with a warranty. Can't beat it
 
Stupid question but reading this thread it sounds like regardless of big or small block manual or auto all starters are the same?
